Using your teeth.....
« on: July 23, 2009, 07:03:59 PM »
....To test sustain.

Today for some reason I was listening in depth to the sustains on my guitars and I remember biting a music box (little turn wheel thing I purchased from hawkins bizarre for my girlfriend)

Any way you can basically feel it resonating in you skull kinda, so I strummed a few chords and single notes letting it ring and putting my top teeth down on top of the guitar. Anyway it works a treat and I could here some very unusual things that I didn't expect.

My Fret King (les paul) Mahogany+maple top had a very smooth consistent sustain whereas my Epiphone SG Mahogany body and neck had a more gritty kind of vibration.

Give it a try go onnnnn.....

Yngwie does this I believe, and Fender recreated it for the relic model... :?

Yeah, it wasn't possible to get Yngwie to bite them all himself, but every guitar comes with the front teeth of a big fat 45 year old Swedish bloke embedded in the top.

Haha I didn't mean really bite into your axe just rest your teeth on the surface. You still get the resonance in your head.

I'll give it a miss thanks - my Feline has so much resonance & sustain that I'm fairly sure it would dislodge something.  I quite like having my own teeth... ;)

I was thinking the same about my WezV! :)
Plus I really don't want teeth marks in that glorious oiled wood finish :)

Put the edge of the body on a plasterboard wall, they resonate like crazy with the lower notes :)

Or put the headstock against some kind of tubular metal frame, like an exercise bike.  That sounds good.

Or plug it into an amp.

If you want to determine the pure, unadulterated sustain of the instrument, plugging it in will deceive you.
BKP Team: Bridge MQ, Black. Bridge HD, Raw Nickel.
To Do: Bridge Nailbomb in chrome (?)

I was making a funneh.

Shame you gotta plug it in for anyone to hear you though and the only thing that matters is the amplified sound.

Another tip if your so inclined is to use your little finger on the end of the guitar - past the tone knob - hit the B and see how much you feel it. I prefer to use my ears though 0_o

I wonder how black fillings sound compared to silver fillings.
