Guitar heights

Like the title says, how do you like the hight of your guitar/lenght of your strap when you're standing up playing?

Are you into the Slash thing where the guitar hangs below your knees and you have to pull it up on your hip to reach the high notes, or are you more like a Beatle that wears his guitar inside the armpits?

Personally I dig the Slash thing. I like the look of a low hanging guitar, but I must say I find it rather difficult playing a very low hanging guitar.

I think it looks kinda silly when a rock guitarist has the guitar sitting too high. The only one who can pull this off still looking good is Tom Morello.

I'm a half and half kind of guy. Since i started doing more lead work i wear it higher. too low and i find the guitar naturally swings back to my right, so i have to reach around myself to play the upper register. where as higher up, even only slightly, means the guitar sits in front of my waist and its easier to reach and play.

Medium, I'm not much of a player, so I need all the help I can get. With the guitar low, I can hardly play at all  :lol:

I have it fairly low I guess, with the top edge of the guitar just below my belt buckle when I stand up straight and the guitar is right in front of me.  That gives a slight bend in my arm when muting at the bridge so there's no stretch to reach the controls:

Depends on the guitar.

My Tele and Yam SG need to be slung lowwww, because they just look so cool that way.  But my Stratish Charvel suits medium, mainly because it's a fast guitar and you need better access to the neck.

I don't gig as much, so I rarely stand with my guitar.

But when I really want to nail a song I try sitting and standing, and its usually a metal song and complicated so the guitar is usually in the middle of my belt area, if a little lower.

i like pretty low, too high is uncomfortable on me. Somewhere around the crotch region is perfect i think.

As low as possible for looks, but as high as possible to help my playing !

I wish I could reliably play as low as TF or BM, as it does look cooler to me.  Unfortunately, I need it higher or I just make way too many mistakes.

If i'm playing a strat (or a guitar where the bridge is close to the edge of the body) then I like it high because i find it hard to palm mute as my arm goes backwards to far.

If its a more Gibson like guitar with plenty of body after the bridge then I find it much easier to play lower.

I still dont play as low as twinfan or badgermark though. I play about one guitars width higher than them.

This isn't the lowest I've had the guitar, but any lower and my playing starts to drop drastically, getting worse than it already is.

Well I don't gig, but I have started playing with a strap as I find I hold the guitar more constantly in the same place, I'd say I have it medium / high, the bridge pup is about in line with my belt. Low looks cooler but I'll worry about that when I can play better!

recently became a medium person, used to be high because my playing technique from practising sitting down became my standing up technique, then I changed picks and my technique changed!
