Loop switching pedal
« on: July 29, 2009, 02:25:05 AM »
So heres my issue, up until recently i always ran my effect in the amps loop which was switchable, my new amp doesnt have a loop so im running them at the end of my signal chain but would like to be able to put them in a basic footswitchable loop to turn all on or off.
i know that the easy part, its pretty simple to make a small loop pedal, but what Im after is slightly different

I generally like to leave all my pedals on top of my amp or directly in front of it out of harms way, but would like to be able to switch the loop remotely if at all possible. so on my board would be a box with all the ins and outs of the loop with the switching device at the other end of a decent length lead.

can it be done?
my ideas of how it would be done are
-relays? i dont understand these, but maybe they would be useful, i know theyre involved in amp channel switching.
-run some sort of snake with all the ins and outs from the jack box to a remote switch, this would make the signal path quite long though. if this method could work i was thinking of maybe using 1 multicore cable with a speakon 8 lead connector or something? would all the signals going in oppoiste directions inside the one lead cause noise?
-give up
-get a roadie to switch my effects on and off. this is what my bands other guitarist did at a garage show a while back, too many dudes between him and his gear so was pointing at guys to switch hes efects on and off.

my ideas may be stupid, i dont understand the tech side of this, just know what i want to do.
any suggestions would help greatly.

Cheers

yeah i had seen those before but forgot about the remote switching on it. came across it again while searching around after posting this. may be the easiest thing for what i need, but may need to hold off for a while since theyre a bit pricy.

oh nah, read about the loopbone more, the remote switching is to feed an amp channel switch or something similar.
I was hoping for a remote switch to go into the pedal to control the loops on the pedal, so i could have the pedal on my board but just have a separate switch on the stage to turn the loop on and off.

yeah those look awesome, theres heaps of things like that around, but they all seem to be for hundreds of loops so are quite expensive, all i want is one.
had a look on our local fake ebay site and found a nobels alex-1, it seems to be exactly what i want. and in/out and a loop in/out with an input jack for an channel selector footswitch which i can place in harms way, while keeping everything else out of harms way
was pretty cheap, so if it sucks, no biggie. but then ill have to save for one of those fancy ones or just not bother
