Blackheart Little Giant

I've got one of these, modified by RAT, and it's excellent.

But I was just chatting to my brother-in-law and he mentioned putting a decent highish gain clipping section in basic amps.

Is this possible?  Or advisable?

You can put a pair of back-to-back diodes from the volume pot's wiper to ground, that will give you basic diode clipping.  Not sure why you'd WANT to do that though as you state the amp is already great.  What is it that you want to change about the amp, i.e. what are you trying to achieve with the mod?

Fair point.

The amp DOES sound great - the RAT mod gives me either 6v6 or EL38 option.  However, it's a fairly inexpensive and robust amp, and it would be nice to get something extra out of it, if you know what I mean.  All my drive requirements are currently provided for by a Crunch Box and an American OD.  I wondered if there might be come cool mods that I can wire INSIDE the amp...

Your Crunchbox sounds better than any diode clipping you'll put inside the amp, imo.  If you're wanting to tinker, go ahead, you'll not harm anything so long as you know what you're doing and you can easily reverse any mods.
