Separately, Dr Linda Papadopoulous [sic] is carrying out a 'fact-finding review of the sexualisation of girls and links to violence'. All will report back later this year, and lead to the publication of an action plan.

Ah, Dr. Linda Papadopoulos, the media-friendly face of popular psychology.

I love it when she's on the news talking about the pressures young women face over unattainable "body images".  Because she must know all about what that's like.

Absolutely agree Philly...

TV Producers can't wait to put the sexy little Dr P on the box.

The idea that she is the "first call" psychology expert based primarily on her professional expertise does tend to ring hollow.  :?

That was until he got caught plagiarising someone else's work!

Now if I caught Dr Linda being a very naughty little girl, I might have to give her a gentle spanking to get her back into line... Mmm

Spinal Tap got it right.... Yeah misogyny rules!

You been bad
Don't do what I say.
You don't listen.
And you never obey.
Try to teach you.
But you just won't be good.
You won't behave the way
A big girl should.
It's time to give the whip a crack.
I'm gonna have to send you back to
Bitch School.
Bitch School.
You're a beauty.
You're the best of your breed.
You're a handful.
And I know what you need.
You need training.
Gonna bring you to heel.
I'm gonna break you with my will of steel.
Discipline's my middle name.
And no one comes back the same from
Bitch School.
Bitch School.
No more sniffling strangers, or running free at night.
You think my bark's bad, honey - wait till you feel my bite.
You got problems.
You whine and you beg.
When I'm busy,
You wanna dance with my leg.
I'm gonna chain you.
Make you sleep out of doors.
You're so fetching when you're down on all fours.
And when you hear your master,
You will come a little faster, thanks to
Bitch School.

Harman's crazed rants do absolutely nothing for feminism.  her notion seems to be that women should get certain jobs whether they're qualified or not just because they're women.  that in itself is discrimination!

we recently interviewed for a new engineer, most of the applicants were men, there were two women.  as it happens, one of the women got the job.  not because she's female, because she was the best one for the job.  any legislation saying you HAD to employ a one or the other sex to fulfill a quota would be ridiculous and wrong.
cry HAVOC!! and let slip the pigs of war!!!

+1

& I fail to see why teaching that hitting girls is wrong requires an "initiative".  I remember quite clearly being taught at primary school that hitting girls is wrong.

Or perhaps we've just come full circle & at some point in the 30 years since I left primary school, someone had decided that teaching people not to hit girls was discriminatory?

Remember that "Spousal Abuse" (posh name for domestic violence) goes both ways and isnt always limited to physical violence.

this is what i was really focused on!

teaching children about domestic violence and hopefully the happy oppsoite of that makes sense to me.  i realise its all a bit 'nanny state' and trying to take a job away from the family but i honestly believe there are a large number of families that simply dont know how to teach children these basic lessons... mind you, there are very few teachers that will be able to do it well either, letes leave it upto the teletubbies instead ;)

this is not a feminist issue, but the daily mail decide to put that label on it and manage to at best miss, at worst completely undermine the whole point

issues of an allready bloated curriculum aside.  schools already teach basic sex education at this age, does it not make sense to teach a bit more about basic human relationships at the same time!

schools already teach basic sex education at this age

they teaching anything about STDs yet?

I'm 25 now and all they ever taught me how sex works in primary and then sex and a bit about protection in high school, didn't tell us anything about STDs which ones are out there, which ones they can cure, etc

had 1 lesson about being a parent it was so good half the girls from my school are single mums now

I remember more from the PSE lessons on world population...
