Well it's new dog day here and here she is a 4 year old Doberman bitch called Kia (yeah I know just like the cheap Korean cars). She has a powsh name but we'll stick with her given one as not to confuse the poor bugger.

She's a bit on the plump side as she's not had that much exercise of late. Neither have I so I figure we can get thinner together. ;)

Nice to see some more love of dogs on the forum, there is a horrible cat bias ;)

I should think it would take a lot to wear that dog out if you are trying to get her to lose weight!

Nowt wrong with cats. We've 2 of those as well! ;) Not to mention the 2 rats...

As for wearing her out. I think the total hours of walking and chasing balls is at about 8 hours over two days between me and the missus so far and Kia is only just starting to look tired. We both look half dead!

Very unusual to get a dog at 4 (we always got em as babies).

So in the UK, when you get this type of dog, do you have to show a certificate of suitability? I think in Germany now you do for all dogs that are qualified as "fighting races", to which Dobermans belong.

She's not a puppy as we got her from her previous owner who was unable to continue looking after her and also unable to give her the attention that she needs. Poor bloke was in tears letting her go. We weren't the first to look at her but most people didn't want her as she's been neutered and can't be used for breeding. Says more about the people who just wanted her for breeding than it does the dog and I'm thankful he was trusting enough to let her come to us.

Gabs my other half (another German btw) has had Dobermann's before and I'm told the misconception that they're aggressive fighting dogs is wholly inaccurate. I believe originally they had those traits as they were supposed to be guard dogs, but I believe they are still very protective of their pack but on the whole are very intelligent, placid dogs. This one is a soft as shite and is very attached to us already. I can't even go for a cr@p without a whimpering dog sitting outside the door. No jokes about the smell please!

I think we've won the who can last the longest war as madam has passed out at my feet and is snoring and farting in her sleep!

Nice dog. Will have to meet her at some point.
Dobermanns are great dogs, really loyal and intelligent. They only really go for strangers, however, if you want you can also train them to attack ladies in woods, just like in Moonraker  :)

Hunter - you can just pick them up from the dogs home - In Manchester you just pay £60 admin fee.
As a result there are Rottweillers wandering around the estate I live on.

I got a bite from a free-roming Alsatian last year when it went for my dog which was on a lead

That's great you gave her a new home.

The farting will be highly related to what you feed her I'd say.

Enjoy the new family member!!

I can imagine the feeling :( Great that you're giving her a new home, looks like a nice dog. I've always been put off those type of dogs by the bad impression I always got off them being vicious etc. Good to hear they're not all like that!
