I am now a one guitar man
« on: August 08, 2009, 06:34:01 PM »
I've finally sold my old Tele and the Signature LP. Left with just the Esquire now - feels strange but liberating. Only having one means that I'm not switching guitasevery 20 mins or so.

I am now determined not to buy another unless a) I have the money(which won't be for a while) and b) it is awesome.

It has also just dawned on me that I am now BKPless.
I think I hate being indecisive.

Wow, I can't imagine only having only one guitar.  I think the last time I was in that position was 1986.
BKPs I've Got:  RR, BKP-91, ITs, VHII, CS set, Emeralds
BKPs I Had:  RY+Abraxas, Crawlers, BD+SM

It's the first time in about 8 years for me! I'm toying with the idea of putting a neck pickup in the Esquire. I like the sound of the twisted tele neck pickup - strat sound in a tele package. Do BKP do anything like that? I don't think Fender sell that pickup outside of CS guitars and Bajas.

I've often seen the Blackguard '50 neck described that way.  Maybe Andy or someone will comment.

Ian.  I will say this loudly and clearly.

DO NOT PUT A NECK PICKUP IN THAT ESQUIRE!!!!!!

If you have to have something with a neck pickup, buy another guitar.  Seriously, do NOT mess that Esquire!

Actually, sell it to me and buy yourself something else  ;)

I should say that my last comment was NOT an endorsement of the concept of putting a neck pickup in the Esquire.

Yowzers.

I have never, not for a moment, had less than 3. (I was given one of 3 that were already in the house as a kid, and comandeered the other two; they were officially handed over shortly after )

I'm not yet a single guitar owner, ( although I have sold two more this last few months) - but I may as well be;  as the Archtop is all that gets touched now.

It is indeed liberating, and has allowed me to eventually understand what is more important ( for me ) than gear collecting ;  and that is learning to actually play the instrument and understand the music itself better.  It has of course helped with eventually getting to the point in my life , where I felt truly ready to commit to a long overdue study of Jazz guitar - and therefore start again .  Whatever the 'style' though, I enjoy the sharpening of focus that using one guitar seems to impart.   :)

No Ian, you are a 'one pickup man' and thants cool 8)

Don't listen to these guys telling you not to have a neck pickup - they have probably got 40 pickups between them!

Get a blackguard neck and your Esquire will then enjoy stratty spank and tele warmth in the neck position.

I've just gone down to a 2 guitar man, a BG loaded Tele and my new Tokai ES130, so I have a massive 4 pickups to play with!

1 guitar is all you need as long as it's a good one :D

You guys haven't played that guitar.  It's perfect as it is.  You shouldn't mess with perfection...

Hmm - interesting responses! It might be worth getting a 2 (or 3) pickup guitar next time I buy another. Will more than likely be a CS Fender - Dave's tele is awesome and I actually liked the neck even though by my standards it is huge.
