Pickups for my 7 string Ibby S7420 and Parker Fly Deluxe
« on: August 09, 2009, 10:53:16 PM »
Hi everyone, my name is Andrew and im new to the BKP community. Ive been looking at these pickups for awhile now and im trying to decide what to get (when money comes in lol). Ive heard many great things from the people on this forum and i look forward to reading the advice of everyone on here and learning as much as i can :D

I have an Ibanez S7420 with a mahogany body that i want to get BKP's for and im currently deciding what to get. Im highly favoring the ceramic warpig and the painkiller since thats what Tim recommended. Any other suggestions?

Also what do u guys think would suit a parker fly deluxe with a poplar body? Would the ceramic warpig or a painkiller work for the sound im looking for? Im looking for a very chuggy tone ala the styles of Killswitch Engage and Nevermore. i knw that the body would need routing to make them fit, but i was planning on doing that regardless with EMG's. Ive been considering the BKP's instead.

My main concern is the fact that the BKP's r passive. Ive tried other passive pickups in the past and theyve been highly dissapointing. I knw that BKP's arent any ordinary pickups either, but since they r expensive, i guess im just being a bit buyer cautious. Anyways sorry for the long message and the 20 questions hahaha. Thanks in advance for everyones advice and i look forward to being part of a great community here on this forum :D

Regards,
Andrew

The miracle man would be best for KSE and Nevermore, IMO, all things being equal.

That said, we could do with more detail. Can you be a little more descriptive of the sound you want?

Welcome to the boards, too.

Nope. I've put BKPs in two parkers (a Mojo Flame and a Classic) without any routing. You do have to cut the legs and corners off the pickups baseplate though, so you can't then put them in any other guitar.

I may be wrong but I think Tim can make Fly compatible pickups.

I know they've made them for people once upon a time because my guitar tech asked BKP and was told they could, but both times I actually went ahead and ordered sets for my flys BKP said they couldn't.

Yeah Tim does not do pickups for Parkers. I asked when I got my Mojo. Once you cut the tabs and corners off how did you mount them in the guitar? Tim said the poles wont line up with the Duncan's as the pickups in the Flys mount using the pole screws into inserts in the body. He recommended a rewind.

There was a touch of bodging involved in the Classic. The mojo, less so. To be honest I don't recall as I've sold the mojo to a mate and not looked inside it in a long time, from memory a tiny hole drilled and the threaded bushing nudged along a fraction was all it took.

In hindsight, the rewind would have been the sensible option  But I wanted different colours!
