Pickups for Gibby Explorer
« on: August 09, 2009, 11:15:39 PM »
Can anyone reccommend me some BK's for a Gibson Explorer, I'm aiming for a thick but clear distorted sound, and nice warm lead tones in the neck. (kinda like machine head)

If it helps, I use a Peavey 6505, thanks in advance.

= instant MODERN machine head.

BME and TMTC are best achieved with painkillers.

Perhaps.

Well can't we say (because it's summertime that you both guys agree and that *maybe* the MM is the Thicker whereas the PK is the Clearer, as the OP wants a thick but clear distorded sound ? If anything ?

Welcome to the boards Matchoo ! And what about describing a little more the sound you want to achieve and maybe give another bands examples ?

Thanks for the warm welcome :)

I'm looking for a deep thick but clear sound, kind of like Machine Head for rhythm, and like In Flames too, specially for their lead tones.

I would also like nice warm clean tones in the neck, well, as nice as I can get with the 6505 :)

Hope this helps  :)

What album of in flames?

Post up a couple of youtube vids; we'll try to hear through the horrible compression and advise accordingly.

That in bridge or neck?
If in bridge, what should I pair it with? (visa versa)

Thank you

bridge

the neck version is warm, VERY fat and fluid
but if you want a warmer neck lead tone, the cold sweat neck is unbeatable

Would the Cold Sweat in the neck help get the In Flames lead tone? If I remember correctly they use 6505's too.

Thanks for all your help. :)
