I can't watch youtube at work, but I'm following this thread with interest... from posts so far I suspect:

a) I'm going to like this bloke
b) I will, however, be able to see what it is that rubs others up the wrong way

I'll try and watch it tonight :D

Indeed - he's a little manic. Okay, a LOT manic. He obviously loves guitars and music in general - rock is the obvious theme. With the personality I have I think I react slightly better to higer energy people although when playing guitar I am anything but high energy! Maybe I should grow my hair, paint my nails, learn to sing and go mental.

I can see why others don't like him.

Ah I love Phil X, so happy just to be rocking out. Also shows up those boring old farts that think that old guitars should be treasured and only white man blues can be played. He rocks out and loves it. nice guitar though.

Oh and he knows his stuff! I've saw him rock a jazzmaster and he actually knew what the switches do, other jm demos the dude has no idea.

Lovely guitar, but I have to say that bloke Phil X gets on Phil Q's nerves.

 I reckon you like his black nail varnish Philly!

Actually I hadn't even noticed that - doesn't bother me  .  He's just generally too loud, hyper and c--ky.... nothing really wrong with that, but I'm a quiet type and I can't cope with that type of person.

(I admit he's more irritating in some videos than others - he's probably OK when he's not in "full on" mode)

But also.... he gets to play all this priceless vintage gear, and seems a bit too blasé about it for my liking.  I'm not saying he should be all whispering and reverent but..... I don't know really, he just annoys me.   :|

BKPs I've Got:  RR, BKP-91, ITs, VHII, CS set, Emeralds
BKPs I Had:  RY+Abraxas, Crawlers, BD+SM

I can see that Philly. If it was me I would be pretty excited about playing all of that gear although my playing woulbn't deserve it.

This may annoy others on here but this '59 335 sounds very nice indeed - the AC/DC stuff in the second half sounds particulalrly good IMO. Wish I hadn't sold he 335 now!

I wonder if anyone was surprised that the output of the Esquire pickup was 5.78k  :?:

I REALLY enjoyed that....

This board has slowly but surely warped my mind into absolutely loving all things Tele/Esquire...

I bought a yellow BC Rich last and now I want a damn Tele? :?

Tell me that isn't all your doing.

Evil BKP board mind control I say... :D

Not me. I've heard a mean overdriven Tennessean once. It had Hi-Lo-tron pickups; 2.5K

I want one of those 'tonemaster' combos Phil X uses.

me too, I've never seen one before and would love to see the schematic, it sounds REALLY nice.

EDIT: here's a website devoted to Magnavox amps, here the Tonemaster page... http://www.vibroworld.com/magnatone/tone381.html

I've emailed them for the schematic - expect it to be very 'funky' from the description of the valves used and also looking at other Magnavox schematics.  four 6973 valves are used in the output stage - never come across them, but would expect them to be similar to 6V6s.

EDIT2: actually, 6973s look to have more in common with EL84s looking at the data sheet - pokey sounding little critters.  Lets see if there are any on ebay...
