Project Esquire - updated with pics

Warning Tele AND relic content

I've been wanting an oddball Esquire for a while now - the constant Tele gassing here doesn't help.

I've just won this body http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=390081624398&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT

as well as these:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=390081280882&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=390072593578&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=390081649272&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT

and ordered some hardware from Glendale

The guy Mark Jenny who did the body is really really helpfull and kind - I'm getting the stuff sent to him and he's going to fit all the parts for me for free because I used B.I.N

So, I'm gonna need a neck and a pup.

Wez is fully booked untill xmas and I don't fancy a long wait time. I'll give Feline and Legra a bell incase they aren't choca but I suspect they will be. Any ideas? I could go warmoth I spose. Satin finish, flat radius shredder neck etc.

And I'm gonna need the nastiest most brutal.... tele pickup  Piledriver is an option, how does it do with highgain?

Thoughts (not Roos) are apreciated  8)

Blimey, that was fast work!

I haven't seen this chap Matt Jenny's stuff on eBay before, interesting....

If you don't mind the Standard Thin neck shape, there should be plenty of choice in the Warmoth showcase.  The other shapes are there, but a bit thinner on the ground.

Or there's USACG etc.

Question: given the bridge you've chosen, are you going for a direct-mounted pickup?

BKPs I've Got:  RR, BKP-91, ITs, VHII, CS set, Emeralds
BKPs I Had:  RY+Abraxas, Crawlers, BD+SM

A quick google shows he's got quite a following, his stuff is meant to be really good, I hope that's right anyway

He does the bodies for Glendales Teles and they cost around $3k

Yea, it's going to be direct mount. I'll have the 3 way for looks but only working in one position and have a killswitch :p

Here's a mock-up.

I'll be sending the bits to Feline to set-up.

Very nice but looking at the mock up - I think if I would go reverse on a Tele, I would have gone for a reverse Strat headstock - possibly a large strat headstock!

I dunno what's come over me but I'm really thinking I would love that!?  :?

Presumably that's a custom order then?  I've never seen an 11.5" radius in the showcase (or anywhere else for that matter!)

I would go custom, but I like the '59 Roundback profile and I really resent paying $35 extra when it's no extra cost in the showcase!  :x

the idea i got was 25" scale and 24 frets - it made a lot of sense to compromise on that!! -  as a scratch build it could work but not as a parts project

it all looks very, very nice

i think i am also being sucked into the forum mass consciousness tele love.... maybe thats why roo hasnt been around much, he started to feel it too - and felt dirty ;)

I'm not sure about the reverse tele headstock and the small bridge, but if you like go for it!!!!

Beside it sounds very nice! I like Esquire, has that direct-almost-punk approach that I really enjoy!
I haven't played for a while, but as ar as remember it was easy to get a Motörhead tone with the Piledriver, direct with the amp (Plexi)... I imagine with high gain amp or some booster or distortion pedal you can get really brutal, like this video:

Yea, it will take a little while to make it as it was custom (8-10 wks) but may as wait and get exactly what I want. I got the 11.5 radius 'cause that's really close to my Vigiers.

Including shipping it cost me 230. Considering it has SS frets, a finish and a nut I reckon that's pretty good. Although, I had to pay a $25 up-charge because I didn't want the neck butt pre drilled, seems a bit backwards to me!

Ah, sounds promising! I like small headstocks and hate the Tele ash tray bridge.

Yea, USACG would do that spec but it would come to just over $500!! So I compromised!

I've never used Glendale hardware before, hope it lives up to the hype.

Anyone used http://www.thedecalshop.co.uk/ ?

What a terribly uninformative website... I'd be interested but it doesn't really tell you anything or offer prices ect. Annoying...

uninformative for a reason, the old version had many reproduction decals on it and i think it got them in trouble.

I had a decal or two from them and they were pretty good,  although i am currently ordering from glen ellard instead and getting very good service - and interesting conversations too!
