Atypical Setup
« on: August 17, 2009, 07:28:42 PM »
I've always been curious about BKPs.  I have no desire to play professionally anymore, so I got rid of all my amps and run my guitars directly into my soundcard (EMU) and then run everything through NI Guitar Rig.  Does anyone else have a particular setup like this and use BKP?  I'm particularly interested in Nailbombs.   I'd probably stick them in either a Carvin Ultra V or Vigier Excalibur Custom, which I'm trying to decide between.

I run a vigier excalibur custom with Nailbombs and run it through Line 6 Gearbox for practice at home and it sounds great, very versatile p/ups.

Awesome, thanks.  Btw, what do you think of the Vigier Ex. Custom?  I got to play one a long time ago and the neck always stuck with me.  Great feel.

Did you get the maple, alder or ash body and did you get the rosewood or maple neck?  The reason I ask is because I've played almost always warmer bodies (mahogany mainly) with rosewood fretboards for the past 10 years.  I'm just tired of having to tweak for hours to get a nice crisp, clean tone.  With the nailbombs, I've heard that I could open up the clean and dirty spectrum a bit wider, especially with brighter alder and ash woods with rosewood fretboard.

I'll recommend the holy diver over the nailbomb (I have both)
it's smoother, fatter, more fluid and has a better clean tone
the nailbomb is a bit crunchier, less middy and more snappy sounding

Oops, mines actually the Ultra, with maple board, its adds an excellent chime to the top end. I play anything between robben ford (badly) and Testament (a bit better) using this guitar.

Cool, thanks for the advice.  I'll have some things to mull over.
