People that have ordered amps from the US
« on: September 05, 2009, 06:28:59 PM »
Please advise - say I want a peters chimera. Which I do. Again. On top of the $2400 for the amp and the 275 shipping, what else do I have to pay (duty etc) and how do I find out how much it is?

Is it available in a 240v 50Hz version? Apart from that you may get copped for VAT, import duty (not sure what that is on amps but it's 3.something percent on most guitar bits. Also make sure that the shipping cost is shown separately on the declaration form otherwise HMRC will make an assumption about the shipping cost based on some loony tables they have and charge you VAT on that. I've asked all my US suppliers to show shipping costs separately 'cos I was loosing a bomb on the HMRC "value adjusted" version of shipping costs.

You'll have to pay VAT @ 15%, import duty at around 3%, plus any shippers handling fees this end.

Add 20% to the total cost, including shipping, and you'll probably be about right.

Import duty - probably 3%

Parcelfarce handling fee - about a tenner

I kind of assumed James (James Peters) would/could configure for british power supply, Bob, being one of your counterparts in the amp world! I should make certain of that though.

Cheers Dave. So I'm looking at about £2100 for a $2400 amp. How irksome. I'll think I'll get back to just thinking about it; it aint gonna happen soon.

I'd expect you'd have to pay alot with VAT, I just had to fork over 65 quid (vat+import duty+parcel farce) to the bar-stewards for a Tele... body....

Lend me the Powerball for a month, then you'll realise how much you love it and when you get it back it will sound all the sweeter...

hehe...

i think everyone else already gave you the answers about duty etc. would be worth seeing if amps count as "guitars", though. "guitars" are around the 3% mark as bob says...
