in that video... i THINK there is a part where dime says something like he never thought he could get the high gain tone he used to get from solid state amps out of a tube amp. that he thought tube amps where all... a bit softer... thats not a quote, i think it was the general point he was making... that actually shocked me a bit. I think really high gain tube amps still have better tone that solid state amps doing a similar thing. which made me think... although dime was a rad player, just how much DID he know about his amps, and other amps on the market... you know? he went a while using the same stuff. if it aint broke don't fix it. so seeing that video of him was a bit strange

That's the point of the overall Master on the Krankenstein. You can dial up a thin, buzzy Randall kinda tone by turning the Master down a little, and driving the channel master into it.  :? Whatever, that's what he wanted...

I actually like the look of that Krank, the plexi headcase looks good.

Jackson Rhoads V's are a funny endoresement thing too. Floyd Rose, large frets, 1 vol 1 tone whereas I think Randy preferred low wide frets, fender trem, and LP electronics

im not saying that its krank vs marshall, or that industry is morally squeaky clean,
im just saying its odd to me see gear endorsed by dead people that includes their signatures on it as a graphic. whatever gear that may be. If they were never even alive during the first stages of development. That may be how the industry works but I dont think that means everyone should be 100% cool with it. Obviously money is going to the family, but I just don't see how you can really related a product to a dead person by just putting something as personal as a signature on it.
Krank sells amps partially because of Dime, Krank makes money by selling amps. Do you think Krank would be as popular if Dime never came on board?

apart from that, i just dont see how anyone can really have a problem with kerry if all that story IS true. I think the gate and the Eq is a simple change, and so is the KT88 power section. I think MJW or HTH could mod circuits into any amp to get the same effect. cant be that hard to add and gate and some controls, and maybe even a bypass switch.

If he DID take a jcm800 based krank to marshall to get them to make a jcm800-krank-marshall amp, then i guess thats just how the industry is.

are you a fan of the krankenstein, i must admit, when i saw whatever video it was, i kind of thought...."eeeeeerrr? what is going on? what is dime talking about!". obvioulsy everyone who spends over £1000 on an all tube head wants it to have a 'solid state' sound. hahaha

No, I much prefer the Revolution. And I really, really like the new 1980.

Well, Dime sought out Krank amps 'cause he was looking for something different. They sent him a Rev and he thought no way is this a production amp, they sent me something custom..... so he apparently he bought a couple retail and was surprised to find that it WAS a production amp.
He then flew in and consulted with Tony. On the front end they added the global master and a little bit of a bright tweak, and added a little gain to the clean channel. A powered loop was added (much needed!) so overall it is very similar to the Rev.

Keep in mind Tony started as a Marshall mod guru, so it's no surprise that KK sent him a couple of Marshalls to work with...
Really is a hilarious story, but I gotta get some work done!! Maybe later...

Do you know if they are gonna make a Junior version of something like a Chadwick? I like my Krank Rev Jr, I like Marshalls (but they're too big for what I need), I don't want to "downtrade" my Rev Jr for a Marshall Haze though... just wondering if they'll come out with something like that.
