Trem King TK-2 on a Tele?
« on: September 22, 2009, 03:04:57 PM »

This trem seems great.

Biggest difference to a strat trem is that the actual bridge is still fixed to the body, but only the strings are tremolated, while staying in tune.

Wondering if I should get a Tele and have this one put in ...

Get a Bigsby B50. Easier to install and probably cheaper too.

Yeah it's the obvious choice, but gives much less bending range and won't stay in tune as this one. Have you looked in detail at the construction? It's really well thought through, with two springs working opposite to bring it back to flush after each use!

Bigsbies don't have tuning issues. That problem usually lies with the nut. I've had 4 guitars with Bigsby vibratos. From the cheapest B700 imitation to a US V-cut B3. All tuning issues were caused by the nut, never the Bigsby.

If it's range you want, get a Floyd.

The opposite spring idea has been around for more than a decade.

The nut is indeed quite often the culprit wrt/ tuning issues - even with fixed bridges FWIW.

There are other issues with Floyds, as well as with any "floating bridge" trems - like having the whole damn thing going out of tune when doing bends or open tuning or breaking a string.

Yeps - but there's more than just an opposite spring involved in the trem-king.

Ok, I didn't have an chance to test a trem-king so far (but I'd be very interested) and to be true I just don't believe it could be the Miracle Solution To All Trem Problems . But from what I've seen of the concept, it might really be an interesting alternative to at least the vintage-strat trem.

Just my 2 cents, really...

What I like about the vintage strat system is that you can just put 5 springs in the back, flatten the bridge, and then put the trem arm and it's little spring in a safe place somewhere - all tuning problems gone...

Perhaps I'm missing something

I severely like the look and concept of the Bigsby system - I was amongst several looking into it a few weeks back - I'm sure that's the trem for me, but alas I don't have a guitar I'm prepared to put it on

I now have the Bigsby, Vibramate and roller bridge - might get round to installing them some time in the next 6 months or so...

This seems to work, even I start to think in Floyd equiped guitar (One of the BIGGEST Floyd hater ever!! Had a BC Rich cr@p once that broke the block, strings, etc so many times that I got REALLY frustate with them)

I was wondering that, but I also guessed the "next 6 months or so..." bit, so I decided not to ask!

Does it look like a nice set of it though? :D

Yeah, it looks like it'll all fit together nicely.   :)

I don't think I'd order a Vibramate direct again though, they charged loads for shipping and it took ages to arrive.  Better to get one on eBay!
