Just spotted this last night, Guthrie Govan appeared to be playing with Dizzee Rascal on Jools Holland. Sorry I couldn't warn you before last night's show, I didn't know he was on it until I saw it. Should be repeated on Friday, I think, with any luck he'll be on it then.

:)

Umm... not entirely sure who Guthrie Govan might be, and I'm guessing Dizzee Rascal might be a rapper chappie?

I saw the start of Jools the other night, and there was a rapper chappie who had a stunning, STUNNING band - and I actually thought he was pretty good too... (then I went to bed after falling asleep during some boogie-woogie)

Would I be right in thinking the long-haired chap on the accoustic in the stunning band was Mr Govan?

Although I'm not a big fan of some of Guthrie's fusion/jazz material he is an amazing player. He seems to be able to switch effortlessly to any style of playing.

This is Guthrie's 'take' of the winners of Guitar Techniques poll http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EUXk2ZrgcQM. (Warning to Twinfan and Martin - there are a few bars of Jeff Beck style in there  :D)

His tuition books/dvds are excellent and he seems to be very unpretentious. Apparently Joe Satriani wanted him for G3 but the organisers thought he was not 'marketable'.

I liked what he was playing - but what got me was the entire combo... for a genre of music I don't think too much about, that performance really grabbed me (I was reaching for the off button when I found it, and it made me stay glued to the sofa )

I loved how the whole band was playing off each other. I'm guessing the guitar and bass dragged me into it first, but the backing vox, everything, put a big smile on my face :D (I didn't watch the rest of the show - so perhaps they played some complete @rse later!!)

I wouldn't of minded watching it if Dizzee Rascal wasn't there. Sounded like a drunken babbling idiot, completely ruined the real talent going into that performance.

Just watched some of the BBC Electric Proms, again with Guthrie in Dizzee's band.

It's cool, very cool, that he has a proper band, but I still find his rapping unlistenable.  :|

i'm not a fan of rap, but having watched Dizzee Rascal and his excellent band, i was quite impressed.  i'd certainly prefer a singer, but there's definately some serious skill in what he's doing.  and at least he's not waving champagne and shouting some gangster cr@p.
cry HAVOC!! and let slip the pigs of war!!!
