new coated strings by ernieball and d'addario
« on: September 24, 2009, 11:26:21 PM »
been looking at musicman's... noticed ernieball and d'addario are doing plain steel coated singles, I'm tempted to give them a go, the ernieballs are titanium coated and the d'addarios are brass coated, anyone tried them?

from memory of previous threads on coated strings I don't think anyone here got on with the ones by other brands

They're not at all new. But yeah they exist.

Worth noting that Elixir just buy D'addario strings in bulk and coat them in goretex outside Glasgow. The D'addario strings seem every bit as good (though I don't like coated strings at all) for a few quid less.

I haven't used the ones you mentioned but I've used Elixirs a lot and the Nanowebs are great if you have acid fingers or live somewhere humid (or both, like me).
Recently I've seen Cleartone strings but they're even more expensive than Elixirs, has anyone tried these yet? They claim the durability of coated strings with the tone of uncoated http://www.cleartonestrings.com/
