I saw one of these in guitar village last week. Looked pretty decent although I must admit that I didn't like the MIM John 5 model. Very odd pickup choices and strange switching system. If I remember correctly it went something like:

Twisted Tele neck
Enforcer bridge

No pick up selector
Two independent volume controls
No tone control
Kill Switch

I also don't like that bridge plate - call me a traditionalist and you'll be about right!
I think I hate being indecisive.

Only for a strat Andy, only for a strat. Dave was kind enough to send me a link to one that guitars4you have in stock. It's great.

I agree with Philly on the look of this one - black and chrome looks nice.

In principle, black and chrome is ok for me, but I've yet to see a guitar (including this) where it does it for me...

I'd have big issues with the controls as well - I NEED a tone control, intrinsic part of my playing on any electric. And I don't think the pickups are very pretty to look at personally, and the bridge looks odd... etc

In fact there's so much making this "not one for me", that I only just noticed the coloured headstock!!

I don't like this either. I actually prefer the paddle headstcok on the other John 5 models. Very strange seeing that I like traditional stuff on a tele  :?

I'm not a fan of the John 5 telecasters. I sure would love to have his tele collection though!

I'm assuming that's the link where he shows you his whole vintage collection? Can't check it out as I'm at work  :(. Very, very jealous of him though!

It's an interesting guitar, I think it's the first bound body Tele from Squire, hope to see more  8)

Oddly the Fender J5's have a large '60s C neck, the Squire has a thin modern C, which seems odd to me. No tone control is just crazy  :? And no (Mr Van Halen) volume isn't tone

No tone = no tone.

Total Guitar reviewed the J5 and to my surprise said that after a while they didn't miss having a tone control. I think I would miss it.

no tone is fine on a humbucker guitar IMO.. looks cool

Nah, even on humbuckers I want tone controls. That's not saying anyone else is wrong, and I do indeed use the volume in it's "tone" capacity as well, especially on teles, but I've always set my amps up expecting to use both the volume and tone controls on the guitar...

I could get used to a no-tone-control guitar, but it wouldn't be nearly as versatile for me, and I'd have to completely rethink my use of amplifiers... and I'm far too old fer that

I've discovered the tone control more and more recently - they can be really useful, obviously!

I never needed a tone control on a humbucker guitar. If there's no treble bleed cap on the volume you can roll of some treble with that.
