This just re-emerged on the Gibson website...
« on: October 02, 2009, 09:53:33 PM »
...and no! It's not that horrific Janie Hendrix-money-induced-wet-dream, but the Gibson Nighthawk.

http://www2.gibson.com/Products/Electric-Guitars/Designer/Gibson-USA/Nighthawk.aspx

I think it looks quite tasty! 50s neck, P90 in the neck position etc etc. Seems to tick the right boxes!

Opinions?
Driving in my car, smoking my cigar, the only time i'm happys when i'm playing my guitar!

i have always loved the nighthawks - but that just has none of the features that made it so different to every other gibson in the first place... a nighthawk in shape only.

still nice though ;)

It's a shame they've taken away some of the features like the angled pickup and trapezoid bridge - but at least it's more customisable I guess.

As someone who finds LPs too bulky and heavy, it's quite appealing..... bloody pricey though.  :(
BKPs I've Got:  RR, BKP-91, ITs, VHII, CS set, Emeralds

the guild one - yeah, its quite like that... not something you would say of an original design nighthawk

Me too with the originals... tried to buy one earlier this year but I thought it was a little bit over priced. Nice guitars though.

Well, if I remember right the original was 25.5" scale what took many guys out of the deal... At least here in Brazil, people who bought it was trying to have something that sounded somehow alike a LP without all the weight and they argued about the fender scale...

Someone was kind enough to lend me one for 2 weeks when I was in the Middle East a few years ago. I really liked it but the build quality was pretty poor. I thought long and hard about getting Feline to build a Nighthawk for me before I approached them about the Lion. I think they look really great

I thought this model was dead and that Gibson had dropped it for good.

I think it's quite an impressive pisstake that the guitar looks and probably plays nothing like the originals.

There was one of them in a music shop near me with a maple fretboard and clear pickup bobbins that looked quite cool, to me at least. I didn't have the money to splurge on it so I didn't bother giving it a test run, sorry.

From what I could see of it; the one I saw, would likely play something like a modern telecaster with humbuckers.

I want gibson to bring back the superstrat that they did in the '80s (can't remember the name but it looked like a rickenbacker that had been built for some hair metal/shredder - type person.).
I too use chicken as a measurement.
