i think its silly. most players like to have the thumb over the neck to bend and surely having that massively wide board would make that difficult, particularly for players with smaller hands. it looks about as wide as a 7 or 8 string, and surely having one or two extra strings brings more possibilities than an enlarged empty fretboard. some interesting things could be done from being able to bend downwards, letting other strings ring and so on but i really don't think it justifies the sacrifice in playability. the body shape looks a bit like a parker fly...
