« on: October 14, 2009, 09:52:00 PM »
To put in a Dean USA ml 30th Anniversary guitar, all mahogany body redwood top ebony set neck specs wise.

Just dont know whether to go war pig or nail bombs, any ideas would be greatfully recieved thanks so much.

a very tight heavy sound, in the style of threat signal, chimaira, hell yeah, kind of sound.
Brutal but very articulate i guess we play in C and use mesa boogie dual rec stacks.

Do you find the redwood top attenuate the high end of that guitar compared to a comparble LP set neck instrument with a maple top?
Just straight line it !

You want painkillers for that tone out of that rig

A-Pig will probably be a bit too fat for this. They're very well defined but soooo thick it's untrue.

Certainly one of the fatter ceramics. The Cold Sweat is all that I have experience with in this field. They do rather like mahogany, though!

And post pics. Redwood is f**king epic as a top wood.  :D
A-Pig 7s, Miracle Man & Mule, Cold Sweats... Expensive kit and no talent posse.

cold sweat or painkiller
leaning to the painkiller, unless you're a heavy boosting adept

If you want a tight sound and play in low tunings, you definitely want something ceramic. If you need insanity, consider a C-Pig. Otherwise, Painkiller, or maybe even C-Bomb?
BKP Team: Bridge MQ, Black. Bridge HD, Raw Nickel.
To Do: Bridge Nailbomb in chrome (?)

use the vintage mode
sounds deeper, more organic and much less fizzy
modern mode sucks
and don't go alnico

I still keep the painkiller or cold sweat (if you're boosting the amp) advices

+100 on that, regarding your guitar specs, your rig, and what you want to do. My guess is that the Nailbomb won't deal well with that massive mahogany body, as well as the Pig which could be too dark and warm, imo.

As said before Painkiller would probably be what you are looking for (tightness, downtuning, brutalz BUT clear AND articulate sounds).

nah, not because of this
the nailbomb is waaay too tight in my '73 lp custom
but rectos just don't sound right with alnico pickups
not that they work well with anything anyway

Well, I can only talke by my experience but...

A-NB works amazing great in my Caparison Orbit (Mahogany + Maple neckthru)..

C-NB works insane in my Caparison Angelus Custom (Heavy mahogany body + maple top).

And I'm using a Diezel Herbert and all the guitars down to C and drop A#.

That saying that the NB doesnt work properly with Mahogany,, well, in my case, I think the contrary, they are really great... (In fact, I really hated the PK in my  Orbit, and I replaced with a NB, and now is perfect)

Now I'm in a similar situation, deciding new pickups for another V guitar, and I'm between the C-PIG or the C-NB, not 100% yet.-.. :( maybe the C-Pig to try something different

The PK in a Gibson Explorer gives amazing results regarding the request here : agressive, with real presence, tightness, clarity (everything that I didn't find with the NB by comparison ).

That said, it's true that I didn't take into account the redwood top of that Dean, as for me I was relating my experience with the NB in the 100% mahogany bodied guitar I tried.

As for the caparison, well I think it is a totally different beast, too difficult to compare with that Dean, imo.  But it's nice to see the NB works great in it !

Yeahh, eaxctly, I guess every guitar is a different beast, so... well, I can tell you is my personal experiences with the guitars I've tried.

About explorer... I have an ESP explorer, all mahogany with MM and the result is really great... !!! very very very very great pickups for this guitar. I cant compare with others, because I didnt tried others in this guitar, but definitly match nicely.

Maybe someday I swap the pickups and try the C-NB in the explorer and the MM in the Caparison Angelus.. who knows, although I doubt it cause they are great so far.

Sorry If I went a little off topic, just sharing my experiences and thoughts, in case it can help in any way.
