the C-NB is basically an overwound cold sweat, so a CS neck would be a good option

I see, another thing is, the two pickups at the same height, any noticeable volume difference?

for that you would have to ask Tim - I'd imagine there would be a slight drop, although maybe getting an Alnico bomb wound to match up with the C-NB might be a good idea, I have a set of Nailbombs in my vigier and the neck p/up delivers great cleans and leads.

Best piece of advice i can offer..........call or email Tim.

I personally love the Painkiller neck pickup, I have one in combination with a C-bomb in one of my main guitars and it sounds fantastic. Excellent match in terms of output too.

My c-bomb thats in a 2hb guitar is also paired with a painkiller. I second that. Works great.

(The other is with uber trilogies)

neck CS doesn't sound at all like a neck NB, and they're both A5, so maybe the "overwound CS" thing applies just to the bridge unit...
anyway if you don't want a neck NB (why on earth??), you could try a PK (ceramic, my favourite neck pickup for leads) or a neck MM, that's very versatile for cleans (i heard many say the exact opposite but i love my neck MM!)

my only basswood ibanez (an RGR) has got a couple of A5 warpigs but it flattens and darkens their tone a bit, compared with my other A5 equipped guitar, a mahogany epi LP... so maybe the PK should be the best option if coupled with a C-NB. not considering a neck NB, obviously...
Mule, MQ, Stockholm, CS, RY, MM, PK, ANB, CNB, AWP, CWP, PiG90...

too many? ;)

I've recently fitted a calibrated set of c-bombs to a through neck mahogany Ibanez RGT. Tim said that he normally fits an alnico magnet in the neck pup of a calibrated set, but as they were replacing a set of a5-bombs on this guitar and I was looking for a little more tighness and high mids, so he fitted both bridge and neck pups with the same ceramic magnets used in the painkillers, and nickel allen head screw poles.
I haven't had much time free to fiddle with pup and pole screw heights to find the sweet spots for both yet, but initial impressions are that the neck c-bomb is rather too bright, even with treble rolled right back and a .047mf cap selected.
Plenty more playing around with them to do yet but I might revert to the standard soft iron slot headed screw poles and see if they warm the neck pup a little.
The bridge sounds superb btw - a tone half way between an a5-bomb and a painkiller - exactly what I was hoping for  :D

Thats not a bad way to describe it actually.

Glad you like it (the c-bomb is my favourite bridge pickup as well; it ousted the painkiller, which ousted the c-pig).

Lot of pups can be a good match with the C-NB actually.
What tone are you after and what amp are you using ?.

I'm asking that because I was thinking that If you don't want a calibrated set maybe you'd like to nail very different tones (from bridge to neck) while looking for maximum versality to cover different styles  :?:
