ok, i'm thinking of buying either one of these, or an LP standard, or maybe a japanese tokai love rock if i find a good used one. but i'm really asking about the prs ce22s and ce24, because i've seen a couple on ebay for less than £1000 and i thought "that can't be right, surely???". i know with ebay you have to be careful, but these wee from sellers with plenty good feedback, and everything seemed to add up.
so what is the craic with prs? anyone have one, more specifically one of the ce 22 or 24? i would probably go for one with a toggle switch, the rotary switch/coil split idea doesn't really appeal to me, but i will go for it if i get it for cheap.

what are the pickups like? from the 5 second clips on the prs site, they sound pretty bland to me, which leads to the question, which bkps would sound good in there?

I read the review of the new CE22 in Guitarist magazine recently; I think the list price is around £1400, but they said expect it to be on the high streets for more like £1000...eBay would be cheaper again, I guess.

They got a good review anyhow. I think HJM has VHII's in his PRS, but thats about all I know, sorry.

PRS makes a great axe....I have many of them. You can always switch out the rotary knob for a switch. I have done that on a couple of mine. The quality and playability is there on that guitar. For pickups, it would depend on what sound you like.......I am a metal head to the core and PRS does metal just fine......I would go warpig or miracle man myself or possibly the nailbomb.....But that is me.

PRS is nice, but overpriced. Under £1000 isn't really a big deal for a used one. The old PRS guitars before they changed the heel, ruined the tone etc. sounded and played a shiteload better IMO.
The pickups aint that bad, but obviously not up to BKP standards. I'd put crawlers in em for big straight rock'n'roll. :twisted:

Find a pre 1995 CE mapletop with an alder body, much more versatile tone than the new ones. Get the 24 fret one 'cause the neck pickup sounds very muddy on the 22 fret ones.

pff, i'll be doing well to find a CE i can afford at all!

any pickup ideas? i'm not really interested in coil taps. crawler? vhII? i'm not really into metal. just classic hubucker tones i suppose, but with the prs playability.

Crawlers and VHII's seem to be very good for PRS, so I've read.

what styles of music is PRS more suitable for, compared to a les paul? is the prs more of an all-rounder, whereas the les paul is a blues/classic rock machine?

The PRS is designed to be the ultimate versatility MACHINE. Some call it the only successful hybrid of the Strat and Les Paul, but i don't think its much like that at all :? You can definately play pretty much any style of music on a PRS though, and it will sound good

I have VHIIS in my les paul, if thats the recommendation you mean? Either way, they kick ass, they sound very very fat and smooth. Of course, the woods may be different in the PRS, I don't know. All I know is that I wanted a PRS for a long time because Dave Navarro had one...

VHIIs give you some more power than a Mule/typical PAF style PU, but its never overbearing. You can roll back the volume and get beautiful cleans, or whack it up and get some real power on the bridge pickup. I guess you just have to work a little harder for it than you would with a higher output pickup. Payoff is better cleans.

VHII sounds good, i wouldn't get a higher output pickup than that anyway. i'm by no means a metal player.

:D Hi man !! Be Carefull when dealing on Ebay for PRS`s i`ve put bids in on Ebay for CE24`s Pre `95 & allthough i was out bid i recieved an Email from a guy claiming to have the exact same model i had bid on in a "Warehouse" & he would sell it to me for £600 !! when i didn`t responed i recieved a follow up from him saying i could have it for £250!!!!! It`s a scam don`t responed & send the Email to Ebay. This is very common on Ebay you`ll find it happening on any high price items. Make sure you only do the deal through the Ebay people & do check out the respones`s that people have posted.

totally, i realise there are scams about and you need to be careful. as one seller rightly put it, you can only get LP standards for £600 when they are being sold alongside £30 rolexs.

I'd definately pay £630 for a LP and a Rolex!!! :P
