New bridge PU for Gibson Les Paul Gothic
« on: October 25, 2009, 08:45:26 AM »
I need some help.
I`m using now a X2N in the bridge of my Gibson Les Paul Gothic and itīs to "much" (bassy).
I have a BKP PK in my BFG Paula and a warpig set in my ESP Viper.
They both sound great, but I want something different. The PK is nice, but could be a bit more "brutal".
Iīm playing Metal/Metalcore in B standard using a Randall RM1oo and V30 speakers.
I was thinking about a C-Pig or a MM in the Gothic, which has a mahogany + maple body.
What do you think ?

The C-pig starts to get a very aggressive "chainsaw" bite to it when you play it detuned, definitely very brutal if that's what you want. That would probably be my choice for your situation, but the MM would probably suit you equally well.

- would the c-bomb make sense ?
Iīm a little afraid the c-pig could be to bassy, thatīs what I hate with my X2N.
How would you describe those 3 -c-pig, c-bomb + mm in a LP ?

Thanks a lot !

i've got an A-Pig in an epi LP goth and it's not bassy at all! my C-Pig sits in a bright guitar, but i don't see any reason why it should sound less than stellar in your LP...
Mule, MQ, Stockholm, CS, RY, MM, PK, ANB, CNB, AWP, CWP, PiG90...

too many? ;)

The C-bomb wouldn't be a bad choice by any means. It's a similar to the Painkiller in clarity and tightness, but has fuller lower-midrange, and doesn't have the big upper-mid spike of the PK. I suggested the c-pig instead as it is more compressed and saturated, giving you a very "brutal" sound right away. One cool, thing about the warpig is the double row of polepieces - you can actually alter the bass response quite a bit by adjusting the relative heights of the rows. If you find the low-end response too overpowering, you can lower the row nearer the neck to brighten up the sound.
However, if the bass still worries you, then I would say try the C-bomb and see what you think of it, it's definitely a brighter pickup.

Thanks guys !
Í have still no idea whatīs the best choice, but I guess I will go for the Miracle man.
Maybe a set with the camo cover. My Gothic LP is very "used" and they should fit great.

Hey Nolly, super great clips - respect !
