I also get Bich 10-string GAS from time to time.

Fascinating guitar.

yeah, I'd love to try one of those.

I had a look round in Newcastle and no BC Rich's to be found 'cept some shitety budget Vees in Guitar Guitar.

Still on the lookout for one though - will have to make a special trip to somewhere that stocks BC Rich gear - might just be less hassle to get a train to Kings Cross and visit some London shops.

they had a lot of bc rich down denmark street a while ago, but i havent seen anything interesting lately.

i remember going in and seeing one of these... after i saw the band 108. Vic uses one, or one similar to this. I know of a guy from margate who has one also that played in a band called The Break In. Seemed like everyone was getting into these a while back, then they disappeared. they look REALLY nice. I remeber A1 Music in preston had these real cheap ones in crazy neon colours, but this thing looks classy. one of my favorite looking guitars i think.

that one above looks really nice, but I'm pretty sold on the cherry red colour.

I'm undecided on whether to go hard-tail or floyd.  never had a trem guitar for, err, its probably more than ten years - I seem to recall selling an Ibanez that was the same shape as the Satch guitar before it was Satch's signature model.  was a nice guitar, but I was 100% into Kossoff and Muddy Waters at the time and was really left cold with widdly-widdly playing at the time.

I'm gonna have to play a floyd version and a hard-tail version side by side before I know what is best for me.  I might not like either, had to say at this point - never played one.

This is my fave among the Mockingbirds (apart from flat black).

At less than 400£ it is also ridiculously cheap at Thomann: http://www.thomann.de/gb/bc_rich_mockingbird_exotic_koa.htm
Current BKPs: Miracle Man, Nailbomb, Juggernaut, VHII
Past BKPS: Holy Diver, Trilogy Suite, Sinner, Black Dog

anyone know the deal with these Caliber series Mockingbirds made in Czech Republic?

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/BC-RICH-CALIBRE-RED-MOCKINGBIRD-GUITAR-DIMARZIO-PICKUPS_W0QQitemZ360201373093QQcmdZViewItemQQptZGuitar?hash=item53ddacc5a5#ht_9984wt_1165

build quality and woods seem better than the current Korean ones, but the logo seems suspicious - are these actually BC Rich guitars or just the same shape?

Yeah, they're real BC Rich guitars.  The price point was between the top-end Korean models and the US ones.

All Schaller hardware, DiMarzio pickups, they look really good but they didn't make them for very long - which suggests either the profit margins were too tight or there were QC issues.  It's hard to find any reviews of them, not many people seem to actually own one!
BKPs I've Got:  RR, BKP-91, ITs, VHII, CS set, Emeralds
BKPs I Had:  RY+Abraxas, Crawlers, BD+SM

the quality seems nice (chunky maple cap) and I like how the figuring in the top is subtle.

theres a one on ebay with no pickups for around £550 which is around the most I'd be looking at spending, however a case, shipping and pickups are probably gonna bump the cost of this guitar up another £350.00 which makes it less of a 'deal'.

I really dig the old Rico Mockingbirds and think I'll probably end up holding out for one of those.

The exotic one has a review along with it if you log in as German  :D , the review is in German. Short info: good guitar, great price.

No idea about the others, but in general most reviews of the midprice BC Richs I've read in the least years were always solid and good, especially the Korean ones.

As an info on Kerry: I think I read somewhere once that he used a DiMarzio Megadrive in the early times before he went EMG.

either those two or they were cannibalising the sales of other models...

yep, I'm sure he used Super Distortions early on, then Megadrives.  There are probably other pickups in there too, but I think they were the firm faves before the EMG days.

The new Slayer album has some decent guitar tones, but they haven't revisited the awesome form of God Hates Us All.

I like Hide's Mockingbird, only thing I don't like about the model itself is that the lower part of the upper horn digs into my chest. Though I didn't have a strap when I was playing it and that would've solved it.

The Mockingbird is by far my favourite guitar shape, just wish I could afford a US model.  The 3 NJ models I have are really good though, especially the Classic.  Apart from a badly cut nut it was spot on.
