I love the sound of chainsaws in the morning
« on: October 29, 2009, 06:54:27 PM »
So i want to upgrade the pickups in my Ibanez XPT700XH
decided on an UBERsinner for the neck, now i need to figure out what humbucker i want for the bridge, i was thinking nailbomb or painkiller.....

p.s.
the tone im going for is not "BrOoTuLz", but ruthless, chainsaws ripping and shredding everything to bits.... big sound, tight bass
thanks in advance for the replies.

Chainsaw? I guess that the Painkiller is what you're after, but I'm not expertise on these humbuckers... They say it's the tightest pickup ever (and I can ever understand what "tight" means for a pickup )

Overwound sinner for the neck?
C-Pig that guitar. I don't think anything less could handle such neck strength. I'm not too certain that an A-Pig could handle that, a neck warpig is only about 17.5k, an overwound sinner to replace that is just madness...
BKP Team: Bridge MQ, Black. Bridge HD, Raw Nickel.
To Do: Bridge Nailbomb in chrome (?)

Yeah, this. Alternatively you could get Tim to massively overwind a PK or MM for you. To be fair, the C-pig sounds pretty much like what you want - it's certainly big, tight, and has that chainsaw bite when necessary.

I've got an overwound Sinner in the neck with a Alnico Warpig in my Feline and it is a perfect match.

For that type of sound you'll want something with strong treble response, aggressive character and a very tight bottom end.

I think Painkiller, Miracle Man and Cold Sweat are the tightest BKP - not 100% sure though.
Current BKPs: Miracle Man, Nailbomb, Juggernaut, VHII
Past BKPS: Holy Diver, Trilogy Suite, Sinner, Black Dog

The c-bomb is the tightest, but IMO you want a painkiller

warpig or ceramic warpig.

Personlly id go alnico warpig though, its very easy to control, grinds and saws well and has some oldschool grit over it.........incredibly brutal and its incredibly unique as well. It has its own voice whereas alot of pickups can be compared to pickups from other brands better or worse tone etc.

agreed. as a new pig set owner i can vouch that i think they will do what you want. i got an alnico neck and a ceramic bridge. the ceramic bridge does the chainsaw better than leatherface.
