Neck companion for miracle man bridge.....
« on: November 08, 2009, 10:45:00 PM »
Can anyone suggest a neck pickup that would go with my MM bridge?
I want something less full on than the miracle man neck....just a nice clear sound for cleans and a smooth overdrive that will keep up with the MM's output??
any suggestions folks ??

+1 on the Cold Sweat neck.

The MM neck is great though - and should also be tried as a BRIDGE pickup - works really great

Cold Sweat neck with a Miracle Man bridge is possibly one of the most popular combinations on the forum & the CS neck certainly matches the description "nice clear sound for cleans and a smooth overdrive that will keep up with the MM's output".

However the Miracle Man neck has IMHO one of the best neck lead sounds out there.  It's powerful, full & clear with that great "ooooo" vowel sound under drive.  The clean sound is very fulll & powerful, yet clear.  Because my favourite neck clean sound is the Holy Diver neck, a guitar with the MM neck is a bit much with the same amp settings.

Another good alternative is the VHII neck.  It is similar power to the CS, but has a slightly more "PAF"/vintagey vibe to the sound.  It has more of a "chime" to its clean sound & has almost a single-coil feel (albeit a very powerful one!) under gain.

The MM neck sounds similiar to the 85, only much thicker, clearer and a little deeper. It is also pretty hot!

It doesn't so much sound like the 85, as it balances with the MM bridge in a similar way that an 85 neck balances with an 81 bridge, if that makes sense....

yeah that makes perfect sense. Think it could be narrowed down to the mm or cs....but most likely the mm......: )

FWIW, I made some clips a while back:

Clean shootout

Well it's a close call but I think its going to be the MM neck for me.sounds a lot fuller and less hollow than the CS to my ears anyway...
Thanks everyone for your advice and knowledge.
