speakers
« on: November 12, 2009, 07:08:07 PM »
I feel like trying some new speakers
got v30 - g12t-75 X pattern at the moment.

was reading up on jensen blackbirds, celestion golds, eminence cannabis rex and a few others.

i wan't something thats gonna be punchy but smooth and not too hard in the highs, with plenty of low end.

i didnt know if might be an idea to try mixing V30's and Celestion Golds.
or going for G12H's.
last night was too late to be trying to figure this out. i got all mixed with watt ratings and sensitivity

Celestion Classic Lead 80s are what you want, no question.

I'd say G12K-100's. I found CL80's to have too much presence in their sound.

G12K-100s for me. G12K-100s for you.

I have two of each in my 4x12.  It's insane, I love it

huge +1 for mixing k100s with V30s.

I also had V30s and t75s in X. I switched to k100s and it did pretty much what you want (not that much more low end, but its faster and more defined, more mids, generally much punchier, smoother top end)

i think im between golds and k100's.

K100's have an obvious cost benefit compared to the golds.

torn between golds and k-100's....

V30 60W 100dB sensitivity
Gold 50W 100dB sens
K-100 100W 99dB sens

are all these speakers going to sound at the same volume with an identical source? given that their sensitivities match, or is there a relationship with power rating that ive forgotten?

the K-100 i imagine to be similar to a V30 but with a little more low and high end detail.
the Gold looks like it would give me more bass, but also a dollop of high end. maybe some detail in the mids? but would that work alongside the V30?

You imagine wrong on the k100 Vs V30 mate.

Its got a tighter low end but not as much of it, much more midrange, and non-spikey high end in similar quantity and is much more open sounding. More detail, yeah, but the differences run deeper than that!

Pairing them up, for the thickness, attack and depth of bass of the V30, and the tightness, mids and clarity of the k100 is a force to be reconned with.

maybe I should be looking to pair a K100 with my G12-65.

Decided to go for the Classic Lead 80's.
had a word with celestion. Thats what they recommended for more bass and definition.

worst pun ever.

is that combo any good for non-brootz?
