Ummm... I Seem To Have Joined A Band...
« on: November 13, 2009, 10:30:45 AM »
It's been a while.

Hooked up with a singer/songwriter who wanted to get his songs out in a gigging environment.  He's pretty good, kinda country/blues/American folk, David Gray/Del Amitri type stuff.

So I jammed around his house for a bit, and we got a drummer and bass player and had our first proper rehearsal studio bash last Wednesday.

It was good to give my Orange and Blackguard Flat 50s a decent work out - the singer plays accoustic and a American Standard Tele through a Fender Delux.  The two Teles don't sound right together, so for the songs that require 2 electrics I think that I'll be playing my Yam SG with Mules.

But overall, not a bad effort for a 38 IT manager!

Mark.

Nice one :D

Shame you can't get the two teles to work. I had the same problem years back with a strat (other guitarist) and a tele (me). I ended up switching to SG or Les Paul.

Try talking him into getting an SG  - we found that works well as a singer's "strumming guitar", as well as a tele does, but a bit warmer and rounded, and mixes well with a Fender-type. (We were playing Del Amitri type stuff.)

I second AndyR's recommendation.  We have a Tele/SG mix in Doppelganger.  Works great!

Yeah, I picked up on the SG thing because I'd just got into The Who (30 years late!) and discovered that Pete Townsend managed to make a pretty good fist of the accoustic stuff in Tommy, playing live with an SG.

The other thing me choosing an SG did was free up the other guitarist to switch between fender/gibson at will without worrying too much about what I was playing - I used one guitar, or it's backup, for the whole set. That's why I was laughing in my original post - get him to change guitar, and you'll have the freedom to choose which guitar you want to play!
