335 versus Fender...

While my 335's with The Man, I'm playing our bass player's Mexican Telecaster. OK, the build quality's not the best in the world (for example there's some play in the pickup selector switch and the input jack's a bit wobbly) and it's somewhat body-heavy, but it feels, y'know, nice.

I really like the neck, the extra string tension, the simplicity. And I've got to say I also like the clarity of tone Fenders have.

Maybe time to spec up a Feline Jazzmaster Fender-style thang...

Yes you should get a Fenderish guitar.

I have a 335 (Tokai) and a Tele, it's really nice going from one to the other.  Generally take both to gigs, start with the Tele when I'm fresh and feel like fighting for some grunt then plug in the 335 second set and let the Humbuckers do a little of the work for me.

I'm loving Fenders more and more, in fact Esquires in particular.  For my next gig in December I'll be taking my Fender Esquire and my custom built La Cabronita as a backup - two single pickup guitars, nice and simple.

In a two guitar band, and in my opinion, you need one Fender and one Gibson to balance the tones out.  Works well for us in Doppelganger!

This is a good point, actually. Our other guitarist plays a Thinline, and I think it's important to have two different sounds.

Two great guitars to do the same job differently. I love 335's but also love Teles( and Strats) and I like the contrasts between them. I don't have a semi ( yet) but if I did I am not sure how I'd get on at a gig with one...but I'd have a bloody good time finding out.

It's really nice, I like it a lot.  Mine is the Lake Placid Blue one below.

It's a very versatile guitar, but it really excels in a "bluesy classic rock" context.  It's quite thick sounding, due to the P90s, but it's still bright and articulate.  The body shape is really comfy and it looks cool slung low, where I like 'em  ;)  Unlike a Strat or a PRS doublecut, which don't quite work in a rock and roll stance!

It got a slightly lukewarm response at the BKP meet in London a few months ago, as it was primarily metal guys who were there, but there are a couple of people on here who like it  ;)

Nice! I like the ageing on these guitars.

I'm not into high gain stuff. I like clean/breakup territory, with some power valve responsiveness. And a little feedback now and then.  8)

I see Sounds Great have an awesome looking Rustbucket SP6 in stock now.  If only they weren't so expensive.

hmm, i think twinfan's fano is nice, but very overpriced.  and i just don't get the relic thing.  yes, old slightly battered guitars look great, but making a new one that way just seems, pointless.  except that someone will buy it!

I like the look of Fanos too, I would love to try one out sometime but other than Sounds Great I haven't seen any for sale in the UK.

On topic though, I play mainly Fenders and Fender style guitars. I love Strats and Esquires, my main gigging guitar is a Strat and I used to also play a Fender MIM Esquire which I regret selling because it was a very cool guitar, but I do have my WV Celtic Esquire in the works, can't wait for it to be finished so I can take an Esquire out gigging with me again.

And yeah, eye of the beholder as you say.  I know you like your Gibson MIIIs  - so do I, as it happens, but many wouldn't.  I mean, there are actually people out there who think blingy, pointy, flame-topped Ibanez superstrats look attractive!  :P

Philly, i do indeed like my MIII's! :)  and they kinda relate to this thread, since they're a sort of Gibson/Fender hybrid.  like Twinfan, i've found myself moving away from humbuckers and shorter scales to fender type guitars.  and of course i have his classic vibe esquire!  it sounds great through a Marshall, can go from agressive to sweet with a change of pick attack.  but then i got my 1970 Les Paul, and i'm falling back in love with that sound again.

i think the fendery clarity and attack is a more involved sound, if that makes sense, it has more personality and of course it suits lower gain tones.  but the girth and thump of a good humbucker is necessary now and again!  it's already been said here, in a two guitar band one of each is a great combination.
