5150's are still the amp listed on his technical rider, anyway...

is that down to the likelihood of rental companies stocking 5150's as opposed to randalls?

Endorsement deals run out all the time.

I think if you really like something, you'd put your name to it till something better comes along, or someone offers you a better deal.

Ideally, but given you can still use whatever you like in the studio, and most of your time spent abroad will be with hired gear and not many hire companies have much out with the "standards" Twins, Bassmans, AC30s, AC15s, JCM800s, JCM2000s, Rectos and 5150s, then you're likely not using your endorsement gear outwith your own terrirtory anyway. So who cares if it changes all the time.

It's different if you've only a partial endorsement where you still have to buy gear. But in those cases, it's usually even harder to get your own gear abroad because the brand generally wont be arsed to try and help.

Plenty times I've been stuck hiring gear for bands who's endorsers wont supply with anything to use in the UK.

Well yeah. I know its not always possible to get hold of certain things. so asking for a 5150 just saves a headache.

But touring and recording and using one thing because you can't get whatever is different to just attaching your name to a product. Someone might use a 5150 if they had to, but wouldn't necessarily endorse the 5150 as being their amp of choice in a situation where they could have anything.

I think partial endorsement and so on, or deals where artists still buy their own amps (such as what mesa claim happens with their deals)... means the artist is still willing to pay for that gear themselves while putting their name to it. I think thats an even bigger endorsement.

thats why i asked if amott's 5150 was requested because its easier to hire than his own signature head. maybe he prefers his own head, but know he can't always use it.

The whole endorsement thing has been as sham for ages - I remember reading American guitar amps in the god forsaken 1980s when Gay LA Metal bands like Poison and equally lipsticked and permed shred heads like Tony McAlpine or whoever had the album of the month out would endorse anything.

Oddly, it always seems in 7 of 10 cases  turn out that in the studio these dudes use an old Fender or Gibson guitar and a Marshall in the studio.  Its probably the case that Krank are suffering from the recession and can't keep their artists, so big Jim M has stepped in.

I missed this when I was replying, sorry.

I'd imagine it's because of availability, BUT, having a signature model, you'd imagine Randall would provide him with amps whatever territories he's in, if he asked...

Sorry to throw a wet blanket on the hatefest.
Michael Wilton is still using Krank amps as his live rig. He does also use Marshall and has indeed been digging some Egnater stuff.
That's the cool thing about being a big star, you get to play every cool amp or piece of gear your heart desires.
Endorsement deals are not "exclusive."
Please remember that the Krank nineteen80 amp was designed and developed around Michael's ideas and needs for a live rig.
There are also other products that are in the design stage that Michael Wilton and Tony Dow are collaborating on.
Needless to say, an amicable relationship continues for Krank Amplification and Michael Wilton.

They can be, and I would think the manufacturers would like them to be......

I didn't think there was a hatefest going on. JUst a discussion about how meaningless some artist endorsements actually are.
Obviously if an artist uses 1 amp, its a pretty strong endorsement of that product. Rather than some guy using every amp under the sun adding somethin to that list for the sake of it.
Krank will be the same as a bunch of other builders in the way it deals with endorsement.
Maybe...

Oh Nozzz!!!

Michael has dropped Egnater, Krank and Marshall - now using Fender, Orange, Peavey and Wizard!!!

Don't you see how stupid it can get when you assume certain relationships exist or do not exist by whatever the artist chooses to play on a certain day?

he hasn't rushed to put the 1980 on his site
http://www.michaelwilton.com/amps_05.htm
or mention Krank on his endorsements page
http://www.michaelwilton.com/endorsers_05.htm

to be fair i bet thats only a small amount of what he uses and egnater isn't mentioned either.
i thought id highlight that bit before you start calling me a krank hater with a vendetta who needs to "man up".

again (i think NFE said this already) it doesn't really matter. all the initial excitement about anyone using anything is pretty irrelevant when you think about it. especially when it comes to particular big name muso's who can and DO use anything and everything. I think we determined this "post-krank-hate".

I find it much more helpful to listen to musicians who are friends, and who i respect when it comes to checking out gear.

Yeah, the equipment list and equipment photos on his site are pretty dated.
If anything, he can afford to be the gear whore that we all wish we could.
