Well, I pulled the trigger on the Rebel Yells. Big mistake, there is almost a single coil quality to the top end and its nowhere near as aggressive as what I need. The clean tone is absolutely out of this world awesome but as far as heaviness and aggression it just aint cutting it. Even though its top end is cutting my ears up.

Yep I'm now trying to decide between a ceramic nailbomb and a cold sweat. Any advice appreciated  :D

Anyone know what would be more middy between the two? Also which would be brighter and which would be most bass heavy and loose?

Trust me ... There are TONS of very detailed comparisons between CBomb and CS to be found on this forum...

It's the most talked about thing!

The search box is your friend on this one  :P

i read somewhere that Tim in person does not suggest Holy Divers in scooped guitars.

alder + bolt-on sounds quite scooped for my ears  :? :? :?
the diver is quite middy
much middier than the nailbomb that is also a common choice for alder

did you play with the height?

I don't think a cold sweat will have less top end
it's a very bright pickup
definitely more aggressive and punchy, but bright and sharp (think Dimebag)

I think you would enjoy a regular alnico warpig, despite of the fatter low mids
it has a grainier midrange and a bit more top end than the diver

Yep I played with the height. There is just one certain frequency in the highs of the RYell that is really clashing with my Splawn nitro. It just sounds really single coil ish in the tops. I'm leaning towards a ceramic nailbomb but need to make sure its not going to be too lacking in the mids or too cutting in the top end

The guitar the RY went in is not the bolt on alder fender. The Fender has the Holy Divers in it and I couldn't be happier. Those pups will never leave that guitar!! It's the set in maple neck ebony board mahogany body PRS that I just put the RYells into. Definitely a scooped sounding guitar albeit more balanced than the fender with more low end and a sparklier/more detailed top end. Rebel Yell was the wrong choice. First BKP mistake I've made so far out of 3 guitars so not bad going

a baritone mahogany guitar sounds BRIGHTER than an alder jaguar?
Alot of that brightness mentioned with the PRS is pretty common. Due to the extremely thick finish. They slap on so much finish, it barely sounds like mahog anymore XD

It could be a little to do with that but the bottom end and body resonance still definitely sounds like Mahogany to my ears. For this particular guitar it is a lot more to do with the 28 inch scale, ebony fretboard and Maple neck. Any guitar with extended scale will be automatically brighter and clearer especially with neck and fretboard materials such as this one. This thing resonates like a mother$@#ker but its missing a few mids understandably with the woods involved

Just saying *shrugs* the 25 scale mahogany PRSs sounded kinda thin. That kind of finish really holds a strong affect on the tone.

I know that, but the holy diver is one of the most common recommendations for alder + bolt-on neck
btw, the nailbomb didn't sound middy in my les paul custom  :(
I still think you would enjoy the warpig

I don't know about RY's on a PRS + Nitro, but RY's on a Les Paul + Quick rod or a Competition .. Yes.. that's more likely. Like HTH said Warpigs might be a better choice! In any case give Tim a call or email him! Good luck on you search!
