NOGD!! (New old guitar day)

Hey guys, not posted here for a while hope you're all well :)

I've been suffering from a severe semi acoustic GAS recently and I've been looking at most semi ES335 type guitars under £600.




I walked into a local shop (Digital Village, Cambridge) and saw this guitar and immediately liked the look of it. It's an Epiphone Sheraton. Acoustically very nice and resonant and sustains for ages. Feels very "alive". It has one of the nicest neck profiles of any guitar I've played not too thin or thick; just right, confortable and fast. Nice and dark smooth fretboard. Very nice grains on the top (the line you can see on the pic is reflection of the case). Upon closer inspection it had fret end binding, faded nicely into aged ivory colour so I thought it must be pretty old.




When I checked the serial it turns out the guitar was made in 1989. The quality of inlays are superb real abalone and mop. Really chunky hardware too. I got it for a great price (imo) inc hardcase, well under my budget. I'm happy  :D


p.s. how do you keep the aspect ratio correct when changing avatars?

Very nice - is that a bit of discolouration in the body or just the way the light is falling?

I'm not too up on 80's Epiphones so hope you have got yourself a bargain - the necks on Sheratons I have tried, made in the 2000s, have been pretty chunky and sticky.

You mean where it looks slightly reddish? That's just reflection off the case. The top is lovely burst nicely blended.

The neck on this is in no way chunky. I tried a new Epi Dot at the same time and the neck was a baseball bat compared to this one. That guitar didn't compare too well against this.

Nice, I really like the older Epiphone Sheratons II's.  My mate had an early 90's one and it had a really nice woody tone that the newer ones don't seem to have.

It's always nice when you find a guitar rather than look for a guitar....

Thanks for the comments guys. I think this one's a keeper for sure. I quite like the look of pickguard so that's staying  :P My gf said it looks like fire :? Actually she found the guitar in the store saying she think's it's shiny and pretty. She has good eyes for guitars!

Heh oh no Dave, I wanted to be one a few years back but never had the talent/dedication to be one. I still listen to some 80's prog stuff but play mostly classic rock these days.
