Hi all,

I bought my 7 String a few years ago second hand from one of my local music shops (weird story, it used to belong to my best mate and it ended up with me, very odd...) but I have lost the receipt and have absolutely no idea what model it is.  :?

I'm thinking it's either a Dinky or a Soloist, but what I really want to do is find out exactly what I've got so I can pick the right set of BKP's for it.  :D
I have a feeling it's a Mahog body with a Maple top, but I want to be sure. I'm thinking Painkillers as I want to be able to do the whole Djent thing with it, but again, I'm not sure on the woods so the PK is a guess at the way to go right now.

Here she is, I call her Cherry:

Serial number is 9656314, have tried IDing it on the net, but all the sites that come up have proved useless so far.  :?

If it's bolt-on then it's a Dinky, if neck-thru then it's a soloist
BKPs: HD, MM, NB, PK, CS, Ab (b&n); Am (b only); VHII, Tril (n only); IT, Slow, Sult (m&n)

Sweet, it's a Dinky then, heh. Any idea on the woods at all? I'm pretty sure it's the Mahogany with Maple top construction but not 100% sure.

Be wary Nadzilla, some of the forum members insist on "stabbing themselves in the face" every time they hear someone name their guitars  :P

Is there a sticker on it, either back of headstock or neck heel indicating where it was manufactured.  Judging by the rosewood board & lack of binding, it wasn't made in the USA :)

AFAIK the DX7 model was fixed bridge only, although I don't follow the import line particularly closely.  It could be the DR7 - I can find pics of that model with a Floyd copy...

Yeah, after a bit more searching, I'm going to guess it's a DR7.  These were MIJ (which is a good thing), alder body w/maple top, bolt-on maple neck w/unbound rosewood board.

Hah! okies, thanks all.

Yeah it was my understanding that if the serial started with a 9 it was made in Japan, which I hear is comparable, if not identical to the U.S made ones anyway (in build quality, that is)

Odd that it should be alder, I always imagined that to have a really bright tone. But not having played many Alder guitars (to my knowledge) I can't be relied upon for a proper tone diagnosis.  :D

Hmm, ok then, any thoughts for a pup? Would a Painkiller still give me the tone (high mids and attack) I need for primarily a "Djent"-able Guitar?

Alder-bodies guitars are usually pretty "neutral" sounding, IMHO.

Anyway, if it were mine, I'd pay more attention to the way this particular guitar sounds and what you want it to do, not so much to whatever model it happens to be.

It's a DR-7T from Japan.

Thanks again for the info.

Prawnik - Yeah, just really wanted to know the exact model for my own info really, it's definitely a warmer sounding guitar than my NJ series Warlock, which I really like. Going to have a gander at what other people have put in their guitars for the Djent sound. Most people tend towards the PK, so I think based on what has worked for the majority it's a great contender.

Shobet - cheers, Googled it and the images are identical (apart from colour of course)

Just going to mirror many people's opinions though and say that had it been a 24 fret it would be nigh-on perfect! Shame they didn't make it in a 24. Ah well, I got it for a great knock-down price as the shop were moving premises and having a clear-out of all their 2nd hand stock.  :)

Ok, anyone have any idea how much I can sell one of these in decent nick for? Or what I can expect on part-exchange? I'm going to see if I can get myself something that will be more suited to what I want to do, something with lots of natural mids and a fixed bridge, probably string-thru for more sustain and more use of the body woods. I like the look of some of those Schecter 7's.

Obviously I will be getting a PK and CS to go in the new one.   :D
