^ i disagree with that logic. xfactor is stopping plenty of other people from getting their shot at fame. It's not a vacuum, if x factor gets the number one, someone else doesn't.

We should just agree to have Slade and Roy Wood at #1, alternating each year.

haha, yeah. and maybe throw in the darkness every fifth year for a laugh.

I was thinking about Shakin Stevens myself, but why not eh?

Awesome :D

Apparently this is a recent Kerrang article:

Quote
In related news, X Factor winner Joe McElderry has blasted the LA political rockers claiming they're not even good enough to "get through boot camp on the X factor."

"They're just shouting!" he told The Sun. "They can't be serious! I had no idea what it sounded like [before]. It's dreadful and I hate it.

"How could anyone enjoy this?" he added. "Can you imagine the grandmas hearing this over Christmas lunch? I wouldn't buy it. It's a naught out of ten from me."

The battle for the Christmas chart ends tonight at midnight.

Joe McElderry can sod off!

Being fair I do sort of sympathise with his viewpoint as I find RATM very tiresome. Doesn't change the fact that he is being completely ignorant to dismiss them (though I suspect his words were probably coming from his management or were changed to suit the sensationalist sensibilities of the Sun).
We've had weirder No#1s anyway; Another Brick in the Wall Pt.2 was a christmas single, Fairytale of New York is about a domestic abuse callout, etc.
I too use chicken as a measurement.

missed this post yesterday.

I don't think the point is to say "here's something better than the X Factor".  How would you ever get agreement on something that subjective anyway?

It didn't need to be RATM, it didn't even need to be anything good.

It's just getting behind something - anything - to tell Simon Cowell he doesn't actually have total control of the entertainment and music industry (even though he's increasingly convinced he does).

exactly. and the fact that the band is called "rage against the machine", and the song has *that* lyric at the end, it's sort of symbolic, in a bash-you-over-the-head-with-it kind of way.

I was thinking about Shakin Stevens myself, but why not eh?

hey, we can let him in too

and wow, that's fairly tough talk from mcelderry. What a moron. I'm not even a big fan of RATM (i consider them "decent to good"), and what he said there is just retarded. It's also something of a freudian slip, if you ask me- it's about the charts, not x-factor.

I'm just in favour of this just to be trolling Simon Cowell.  He's rattled by it, as are the rest of the X-Factor lot.

The fact that this whole thing, whether it succeeds or not has brought legions of people together to stop this happening for another year makes me feel all Christmassy, actually.

Last word is that Blandy McBland might still get there.  He's something like 10,000 ahead of RATM last count.

Still, this has been fun.  Same time next year?

Whether they get the top spot or not, it's a huge statement that a lot of people are fed up with Cowell and his nonsense.

The campaign has also so far rasied over £60k for Shelter, which is awesome: www.justgiving.com/ratm4xmas

hahahah what a gigantic c--k! That type of comment just  reinforces the belief that these fruits don't have an effin clue about music in the bigger picture. Since when did musicians turn into $%&#ing teenage know it all car sales men?

Can't really understand why some folks are trying to make out this should have been done completely different.
Why don't you start a revolution from your computer?

The reason they chose this song is becuase it says f$%k you at the end which is a message to Cowell.  Do you really think an up and coming unsigned band would have sold any records?  I say do it yourself next year, prove me wrong and pick your favourite British act.... you only need a Facebook account, lets see how for your ideals get then!

An alternative rock song nearly breaks the Xfactor Christmas monopoly and all I hear is moaning about what it could have been.

Joe McElderry can sod off and take his XFactor boot camp with him!

I was wondering whether they'd be able to allocate them to people who'd paid for the single, then just do it randomly. Probably too much effort though

Haha, that's tremendous!

And fair play:

Quote
McElderry, 18, praised the campaign, adding: "It's been exciting to be part of a much-hyped battle and they definitely deserve congratulations."

I'm sure he's not that bothered - winning the show is the main point of the X Factor, then you just hope the public don't lose interest immediately.  His single will probably be no.1 next week anyway.

But Simon Cowell will be FURIOUS.
