Music Live Mules Arrived
« on: November 15, 2005, 10:17:48 PM »
Having just managed to get a soldering iron powerful enough to deal with Gibson's quantities of solder, I've fitted my neck Mule with unpolished nickel covers, and it looks and sounds the business. This of course has fueled my thirst for more...

Now I originally was going to partner the Mule with a Riff Raff in the bridge, but I'm going through that indecisive phase all potential BKP buyers go through, so I've been looking round at the Abraxas (with Alnico V magnets - mahogany body LP), the new unreleased Painkiller or even the Miracle Man for the bridge. I'm in a successful band playing mostly rock/pop lead lines, but with the occasional thrash/ballsy rock solo subtley blended in. Well I'm looking for something with a little bite to play off my Mule that can also handle screaming leads. It doesn't particularly need to clean up as well as the Mule, but I do enjoy a tight bass response. From that description, to me it looks like the MM is the one, but I'd appreciate your thoughts.

Once again, nice wind/work on that Mule, guys. Gorgeous.

I wouldn't match a Mule with a Miracle man bridge, just too much of a difference, you'd get away with an Abraxas, but the VHII is pretty good for extra bite too!

Didn't you (used to?) have a Miracle Man bridge paired with a Stormy Monday neck?

How about the new Rebel Yell pickup?

Seems to be a great allround rock pickup.

yeah - it was an either/or but not both combination! the big problem was the amount of level change between the two, a crunch on the bridge was clean on the neck!!

I haven't heard much/anything about the Rebel Yell. Any links you can direct me to?

I've now taken a liking to the Abraxas, and I think I'll go with that, probably with Alnico Vs, unless somene can convince me otherwise. I'll be ordering it early next week, i expect.

+1 for the Abraxas. I think that'll be just your thing. However, i think Steve Mr.Pig said the other day that they get quite a lot of MM/Mule sets ordered that work for people. I think you need to ask BKP staff...
LOVING the Mules!

hmmm, i know tom's tried the abraxas and found it too "smooth" sounding - i thought it was just a hotter mule? are there more differences between the mule and the abraxas?
down from the glens came the marching men...

I have an Emerald paired with a neck mule and it is a great combination.  Lots of harmonics and a good rock sound.  It is based on the 70's Thin Lizzy sound.
So many pickups, so little time

I wish I had a link to a soundclip but I think Steve Stevens is still road testing them.
