Rusty Cooley Video

I managed to download a Rusty Cooley guitar instructional video on Sunday. This bloke has to be one of the most frightening shredders in the world. I reckon at one stage in the demo he must have been doubling Yngwie's fastest note output. He was just showing off and I know there's more to guitar playing than speed but most players would find this very impressive. I got it from limewire (like Napster) it's around 165meg. I just sat there and thought how the hell do you get that good!

Rusty is phenomenal technically, but I'm not that into his music.

Here's someone that IMO can play insanely fast and still write nice melodies

http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=1938099378022643751&q=guitar

Watch the whole vid ^ The first few minutes are just widdle, but the rest is definitely worth watching.

Personally i hate it when people say "Oh all that guy can do is play really fast" Ok yeah maybe that is all he can do but so what! I don't see you playing at that speed and using it more melodically, if thats what a guitar player enjoys doing then so be it, cause isn't that what playing an instrument is about???

If you look at the flip side i could say similar things about blues players, rock players, funck players and dare i say it, yes even jazz players can be critacised in similar ways, but i don't i respect that thats what they enjoy playing and that it takes skill, talent and hours of practise to get to that level, you wouldn't go up to BB King and tell him he sucks???........would you...?

I'm not getting at anyone i just hate this whole anti-shredder vibe you see everywere when it comes to guitar players.

But back onto the topics of shredders, Rusty Cooley is awsome, unbeleivable chops another guy to check out is......*dramatic pause whilest i find the link*

Of course i would if i didn't like him (i do though - he's great). I'm not gonna praise anyone's music if i dont bloody like it. I'm not saying that Rusty shouldn't play like he does if he enjoys it. all I'm saying is that i don't enjoy it!!! IMO It's trash, and i think that he's wasted his time getting that fast to play such trash.

I know its taken ages for him to do it, i know its all AMAZING and everything, but its like when yu see somebody's spent 20 years learning to balance an elephant on their head.
"Wow - that is amazing. WHY DID YOU SPEND 20 YEARS OF YOUR LIFE LEARNING TO DO THAT!? YOU'RE AN IDIOT."

There is no doubt that this guy is a complete genius, but, im afraid to say, he goes about looking good the same way i do. He does the same pattern, shape and scale over and over again really fast. It just gets repetetive. He also sounds a bit out...like a distressed owl in a proton accelerator.
I hate to be controversial, but thats my view.
Hes doing the same...over and over again....
Like me!
Im a genius!

Never said i liked endless tuneless noodling, i like watching those clips just cause the sheer speed amazes me, but i pretty much listen to most things, although metal is my favourite genrea.

Fair enough. I think i just see the guitar as a musical instrument to make music with. I don't get it when people play fast for the novelty of playing fast. I'm not against shredding or anything at all! i love metal, but only when theres a tune to it. Sorry i had to argue!
