I'd like to thank all you people (you know who you are :)) who advised me about pup selection for my Tele. It is now loaded with a the Boss set nicely supplied by Tellboy - Thanks man. I took the opportunity to get a new black guard (the guy at Fender who decided these 3-colour sunburst should be supplied with a white guard should be shot... just kidding but honest, what a lack of taste) and a 4-way switch. I have left a pic of what it looked like when I bought it 2 years ago for comparison.
Thanks as well for the good responses to my call out on soldering iron issue. I got myself a unit with controlled temperature and boy it made my life a lot easier...

You are gonna say: wrong section of the forum bro... Unfortunately not! My lovely Tele could currently be called "la Belle inutile".

Despite the ease of ironing, I seemed to have managed to make a mess of the wiring. The bridge pup only works when I manage to stuck the switch between position 1 and 2. And any selection including the neck pup is desperately silent!

I should have start asking myself questions when I realised that the 4-way switch I got, wasn't quite like the one I had on the diagram from the Seymour Duncan's website (http://www.seymourduncan.com/support/wiring-diagrams/schematics.php?schematic=tele_4ws): it only seemed the connections were handed, but could it be there was more to the story?

From the short description above, could anyone advise on where it is most likely I got it wrong? :(

Cheers

Have you got the neck pickup ground and case ground leads connected correctly?

Here's a link to another wiring diagram which hopefully will make it a little clearer (top of page 2).

Thanks Tellboy.

It does seem like the "handing" business was the problem. Your schematic is showing a switch which has the connection exactly like mine. Whereas SD diagram is inverted. Weird!
I'll try again with this diagram. Am good to re-do all connections to the switch :(

Looks great with the black pick guard. Hmm, I must look into that.

I'd just like to state for the record that I give this guitar my official endorsement and approval.

Very nice. I sold my '62 Custom to my partenrs brother. He told me that he took the (white) scratch plate off and put a black one on. I haven't seen it yet but was horrified. Looking at this one makes me feel better! Very nice indeed.
I think I hate being indecisive.
