Stereo / Mono - School me

Okay, to simplify my live rig I'm just running a Line 6 HD147 (yes its not great, but its not shitee either) which pumps out 300 watts or 150 per side stereo.

Currently looking at 2 different cabs to use, one of which only runs in mono.

Main question is.... what difference is made tonally betwenn running an amp in mono vs running it in stereo.

my impression is that for lead tones, running it in stereo with a slight delay would sound FAT for leads?

from what little I know you would not be able to get the sweeping left-to-right flanger sound I think.............


but other than that no clue  :?

I think it is about placement of the cabs- not each side of the stage but close by each other but other than that I am at the end of my experience. One each side of the stage sounds awful for the audience as they get only one side of the signal if they are hard left or right.

Just to clarify, i'm looking at getting a single 4x12 but am undecided as to whether to get one to run in stereo or just stump up for the mono only option.

From my experience using stereo live with a 2x12 cab I had problems getting lost in the mix with clean sounds (lots of chorus, delay & reverb).  So I've gone back to running the cab in mono, the sounds seem to cut through more for some reason.
