New tweedy amp
« on: December 27, 2009, 12:40:49 PM »
So on a whim last night I typed in Peavey Classic 30 into Ebay and found an auction ending today in Ipswich. I bid like a bar-steward and collected my booty this afternoon. Ladies and gentlemen, meet the Tower of Power.

It's a few years old, and sounds beautiful. Shame it's so loud that anything past one on the normal channel makes my spare room shake. I have to wait for a band practice in the new year before I can crank this bitch up.

This along with a new tattoo are the only presents I got this year for my birthday/christmas, and I had to buy them myself. Gutted.

Congratulations - and happy birthday/Xmas too BTW.

The C30 is indeed a great sounding little amp, and I sometimes regret I didn't bought one instead of the Blue Junior. But as you say, it can get pretty loud. Our singer/rythm guitarist has one, and even with our very heavy-hander new drummer he never had to crank it up in rehearsal (can't say the same about the bjr...).

I quite like those, never looked into the price, but they hit the spot with the sound

They are really cheap - and according to those that knows anything about tube amp's inners, cheaply built too. But yes, they really have something tone-wise.

The USA ones were very well built, I used to have a Delta Blues and it was a nice amp.  I'm not sure how they are built now they have moved to China but I think the US ones are a little more revered...

Mine is USA built and in very good condition for an apparently 6 year old amp. Just had a blast through it with my MQ loaded tele and SG, damn it's nice. Miiiight have also plugged into a very crunchy tiny terror with my tuner as a rudimentary A/B box. I think I jizzed in my pants a little when both were on together, classic set clean and the TT's gain at 3/4.

The resulting sound cranked at a rehearsal might just make all of the ladies in the area pregnant. It's so potent.

Congrats with your new amp and 'too. Sad to hear you had to buy both yourself, but I'm sure you're having a blast with the amp.
