My Tele
« on: January 01, 2010, 08:34:11 PM »
I've had this guitar for a while, but never posted anything about it.  Im so happy with it, I have sold all my other guitars and use this exclusively.  I had a 3 hum SG before this, which i used mainly, however it always felt incomplete.  The pickup config was never quite right, the scale length was slightly cumbersome for me and the balance from clean/dist on my amp was just never quite spot on with it.

I think its a '51 model.. the spec is self explanatory really.

Plays beautifully, its perfect in ever way!!  Maybe it could do with a HSS strat to complement.. have all bases covered.

There is a recording Here too.

Teles rule the Fender world, they're much more versatile then you'd ever imagine too.  Plus, the bridge pickup can be fat and twangy at the same time in a way a Strat can never be.

That's a lovely guitar.  I'm a big Tele/Esquire convert and though my latest efforts at guitar assembling feature elements of Esquire, Strat and Jazzmaster I think tonally it's closest to a Tele and I'm really liking it.  I still love Strats but a Strat is very polite, it doesn't have the punch or attack of a Tele, I assume mostly because of the bridge differences. The range of tones and the response to player input from a Tele is so rewarding it's a very hard instrument to put down.

Judging by the logo, it's a late sixties/seventies style model  ;)

Very nice!

Very nice indeed. I agree with Dave that it is a late 60's or 70's. I had a '75 and the logo was pretty much exactly the same as that.
I think I hate being indecisive.

here's my 72 Tele Custom RI headstock - love the 70s Fender look (even prefer the big Strat headstock over the smaller one)

Very nice, in that 'plain wholesome goodness' way that good Teles are.  As gWem noted, there IS a lot of Tele love on the forum just now.  :)

H.T.Hs's headstock shot looks rather tantalising too, and I love the eminently practical and aesthetically pleasing idea of a 'Bullet' truss rod .  !  8)

I almost bought a Baja Tele the other day. I was surprised by how much I liked it. Much 'bigger' sounding than a strat, very no frills, which I liked.

The Strat is more 'me' though. But I wouldn't rule out owning one in the near future.

Tele's have a great workmanlike vibe and as has been said, have a wide range of tones which is odd when you think that they have such a simple layout. In my younger days I disliked the look of them but have grown to love them and when I bought one  several years ago, I was amazed at just how adaptable they were. I maintain that you can get some almost Les Paul like tones out of a Tele with the judicious use of the tone control. Fenders do cover a lot of ground generally but in my view, the Tele does so more so than a Strat though playing wise, I prefer a Strat.
