Just got a set of Warpigs and a Painkiller.
There is some black voodoo magic in BKP's I've concluded.
The AlNiCo Warpig bridge is set in a Schecter C-1 Classic. The amount of gain is intense and the whole pickup seems to have the tonal qualities of a PAF going into a boost pedal that's going into another boost pedal before it makes it to the amp head. I imagined the low end would be loose, and in comparison to the Painkiller it is, but in no way is this a loose pickup. Its incredibly tight and articulate. Even compared to the Duncan-garbage (sorry SH-4) it replaced. The mid range and high end seem to sit so well with the monstrous power the pickup contains. It's so full when playing distorted chords and so sweet when playing leads. This makes the Warpig bar non the BEST high gain pickup I've ever played.
The ceramic Painkiller is set in a 1990 Gibson Les Paul studio. Though it lacks the dominating saturation the Warpig has it makes up for it in one very special way for the metal guitarist we all know and love. Punch. Tightness. Aggression. After playing on it and doing my usual palm muted rhythmic patterns I was completely blown away by the ability for the Painkiller to stay clean. After some very unscientific testing with my TS808 and gain settings on the amp, I'm pretty sure it's completely impossible to make the Painkiller inarticulate no matter how worst-case-scenario the amp settings are. Another special added benifit to the Painkiller is that it makes me feel like I'm a better guitarist. Because the pickup is SO expressive and responsive to my playing style I've had to convince myself every time I sit down with my guitar that there is a world outside that I should eventually again take part in.
I'll eventually be adding my insight on the neck Warpig when I get it installed. There was a bit of a set back with the 2-conductor wiring and the 5-way super strat style switching on my Schecter. This doesn't mean I ordered a 2-conductor on accident or received it as such on accident. It was just the cards I was dealt in scoring a calibrated set of Warpigs on the cheap.
