It's all too self-referential this "metal genre" stuff....
They can really mean it can they?
Don't they ever just read the Daily Mail & have a cup of tea whilst disputing a parking ticket like regular music fans?
Mean what? Like I've said, most bands I deal with are very serious about their music, but they're having fun and I know of no bands who don't listen to swathes of music outwith metal, almost the same goes for fans, bar the guys who never leave their bedroom.
I do think however, that fans of "niche genres", be that extreme metal, or ragga, or drum 'n' bass or whatever, tend to be far more passionate, enthusiastic and opinionated about music than more mainstream (for want of a better word) listeners, which is how I tend to think of the majority of this forum, especially after being so disappointed reading so many posts of "nothing good has come out this year" or "I don't really listen to any new music".
I'd like to think nobody who's music I enjoy reads the Daily Mail and I'd like to think the average music fan would be intelligent enough to read a newspaper of some merit too, but I guess some might.
Of course, the differences between genres doesn't come up a great deal in my conversation from day to day, only if someone says something daft.
