Electric Wizard-thoughts?
« on: January 06, 2010, 06:56:57 AM »
Thanks to a certain someone someone I'm really starting to dig this band, anyone else a fan? The whole setup is new to me.......trippy ambient riffage with distorted vocals that I almost understand, some of it is relaxing in a skull-crushing sort of way, almost like headbanging in slow motion

If hell was a slow churning mosh pit, we'd all be jamming to Electric Wizard  :twisted:

Wade through toxic clouds
Breach the outer sphere
The edge of all our fears

One of my favourite metal bands. They're so ridiculously heavy, I can't even describe the feeling of Dopethrone cranked up through a meaty hifi!

Yep, big fan of that whole vibe here, slow crushing guitars are where it's at! One of the main reasons that I keep looking at SG's, pure EW :)

Another EW fan here, there's nothing better on a cold winter day than sitting indoors and cranking up the doom. :D

I've got albums by the ones in yellow and I've heard/heard of most of the others.  I'm feeling positively cutting edge.  8)

You'll be seeing me at the Necrotic Pustulence Fest 2010 next.

I'm confident you'd like Blood Ceremony, Krux, Reverd Bizarre and Saint Vitus at least Philly. Give 'em a shot!

It's got a unique sound to my ears. That heavy riff with the phasing sound does sound good. Its not like the cookie monster 300bpm stuff.

We had a look at that film Begotten last year. God slitting his wrist and getting a BJ of some ugly bird. Different.

I'll check 'em out!  I've already heard some Blood Ceremony stuff and liked it.   As for Saint Vitus, I don't know why I never bought any of their albums - I've got bits and pieces by The Obsessed, Spirit Caravan and The Hidden Hand and I enjoy most of it.

I think I'm going to go and get "Dopethrone" on CD now - this has piqued my interest, thanks for sharing it.

Dopethrone is probably their most "grating" or raw album if that means anything to you.. Come My Fanatics and their self-titled might be easier to get into.

Having said that, Dopethrone is my favourite :)

Dopethrone is the most pure EW album - if you don't like it, you don't like EW, simple.

Theres nothing quite like EW (imo), but you might also check out the following:

* Melvins (especially Bullhead)
* Sourvein
* Crowbar
* Acid Bath

Actually 'Cavity' are quite like EW - check out 'Somewhere Between The Train Station And The Dumping Grounds'.  (edit: on reflection and a spin of their tunes again, they're more like EyeHateGod if anyone)

(edit2: Iron Monkey are worth checking out too)
