1 Meg Pots?
« on: January 06, 2010, 11:49:07 PM »
Do any of you guys have 'em after replacing 500k?

Do they really open up a high power humbucker?

Where can I get ones suitable for guitar in the UK?

I've tried the usual suspects online and had no luck. The only one's I've found have been Dimarzio and quite frankly they seem overpiced in the UK.

I'd pay over the odds if I know that it makes a valuable difference but if it is just a hype I'll save the money and buy even better cable.

Just curious because I've been doing alot of rewiring in the cold months and I think I might be missing a trick not using 1 Megs in certain dark guitars.

It would be good to hear your experiences.

Duh!!  :? :(

Sorry mate, I'll pick one up ASAP.

Are they worthwhile or am I just pissing about with too much time on my hands?

you sort of know if you need one i reckon. if your guitar is almost there and the top end could do with a bit of opening up they do work - not just with humbuckers by the way (i use one on my boss bridge).

you can experiment with what might happen by removing your tone control, or even volume pot. its not quite the same but it gives you an idea. if 1M doesn't work then 2M won't help you. think I have 1M pots on a couple of my collection. on many more guitars i went to 350k because it was sounding all too bright.

it doesn't affect the bass end, but it can give the feeling it does, you get more cut too.

Maplins should carry them. I've once bought a DPDT 3-way, through eBay from a place called BitsBox, and their service was absolutely great. Well, I'm almost certain it's from them, as it does give their website address on the bag (www.bitsbox.co.uk) and their switches look remarkably like the one I've got, but it's been a while. A really speedy delivery and zero hassle whatsoever. Give 'em a look.
