Then I read a thread on here somewhere about a suggested method for tweaking heights on a fender (a strat mainly) to get where you want - and I found I could get all sorts of tones out of the middle position, including the "sweet spot" I was looking for...

I think your fave sound is hiding in there, waiting for you... :D

I did it for a strat, and then winged it on a tele later...

EDIT: Didn't pay too much attention to the actual measurements, but the adjusting pickups in relation to each other when both are selected is what did it for me.

Someone not interested in middle on a tele, or 2 and 4 on a strat, doesn't need to worry too much - but I'm rather fond of those positions, and until I read this thread it just hadn't occured to me to adjust heights when two pickups are selected :roll:
