A car just exploded in our village..
« on: January 08, 2010, 10:08:00 PM »
Well, about an hour ago now.

I was driving home after dropping my sister off at her mates and saw a big flash. Didn't think much of it til I turned into my street and saw a car on fire, haha. Got some photos, most are noisy and blurry as I had a high ISO and longish shutter speed with no tripod.

Then the fire brigade turned up

Most exciting thing to ever happen in our village, I think

cr@p! :o

Any idea why it exploded? Don't think it's that easy on that frozen street...

So, was the explosion like in the movies?

As far as I'm aware no one was hurt. My first thought as I turned the corner was "I hope no-ones in there" followed by "I'd best get the camera!"

Not sure why it exploded in the first place. Its not like we live in a rough neighborhood, in fact quite the opposite!

Yes it was like in the movies hunter! Sparks flying as electrical bits went pop, thick smoke, tyres popping and windows smashing

Great pictures-the middle one looks as though there is a human figure in the flames. I once saw a car catch fire and the engine started at one point and soon stopped by no-one believes me when I tell them.

Wow!

Your sequence of pictures made me laugh a lot - "And then the fire brigade turned up..." and the following pic looks like the entire street has caught fire

(I realised after a bit that it was the engine's headlights...)

A couple of years back, on bonfire night, a car caught fire in our street, just across the road from us. We're on the first floor and had a grandstand view. Didn't get too far before the fire brigade arrived, so not nearly so spectacular.

But I did learn one thing, that cliche about firemen arousing interest in the wimins... it's true! No idea why, but every woman in the street was outside long after the fire was out. Even Mrs R was "why didn't you tell me there were firemen?!!" when she found out why I was looking out the window...

btw, I emailed the local paper and they want to use a photo, trying to negotiate a fee rather than giving it away :P

Be quick otherwise they'll lose interest by the day.
