French Metal

Seems like Trussart isn't the only frenchman building relic'd steel bodied guitars. I lurv this one.

The maker's called Loic Le Pape.

That looks quite nice. I bet there is a nice price tag as well. Does it smell of onions?

The explorer stated above was made  for a french guitar magazine journalist that loves explorer shaped guitars.

http://www.loiclepapesteelguitars.com/spip.php?rubrique2 , found his website and he even made an english section.

i don't want to offend anyone but why do people like beat up guitars? i half understand something that gets that way through years of playing but people buy 'em fom new like that. Like buying a new car full of rust or new jeans full of holes. give me a shiny scratch free one anyday, if it then becomes nakered get it refinished!

Personally I like the look of them. It's just a different variation of a finish.
I think I hate being indecisive.

Broadly speaking I agree with gordiji I wouldn't normally dream of spending good money on a relic, but for some reason I would on a steel bodied guitar. I loved James Trussart's guitars from the off and these two even more. Funny business taste.

as ian says, its just a finish option for most guitars. no big debate needed on the merits of relics, if you dont like them then dont buy them ;)

the trussarts and these are a bit different though, it goes beyond just being a finish option as the whole guitar is built with the same steampunkish concept in mind.  with these the finish really suits the overall concept rather than just being a replication of something that already exists

Loic's guitars are pretty affordable, at least for custom luthier stuff - starting around €1600 IIRC. And Loic himself is a very nice and honest guy with a true love for guitars and rock'n'roll...

Have: Crawlers, BGF 50/52s, Mules, ABomb, RiffRaff
Had : Slowhands (n&m), Trilogy (b)
