Ebay WWYD?
« on: January 16, 2010, 08:42:47 AM »
OK, had a less than stellar experience on ebay yesterday.  I purchased a pedal (not going into specifics yet - that can wait for a NPBD thread coming soon ;)).

The item was in significantly worse condition than impled by the auction.

What would you do about feedback?

Leaving a negative is probably going to get me a neg in return.  It's not a bank-breaking sum of money & mostly my fault for assuming (i.e. not really worth getting negativer feedback over).  I'm inclined to just accept the loss (I'm guessing that after I sell it on I'll only have lost £10-20), leave a positive feedback with a neutral comment & move on.  WWYD?

I'd probably try to infuse my feedback with some subtle sarcasm, but I'm an @rse like that...

I thought sellers couldn't give negative feedback now? Have you tried talking to the seller? He may be willing to refund you a tenner if the item is not as described.

I would ask the seller to accept a return.

I would otherwise follow the advise on the ebay website which gives procedural steps that should be taken. Neg feedback should only be applied after all other attempts to rectify the situation failed.

Agreed on all points.  Or ask to return it as Hunter suggested, you might have to suffer the shipping for the sake of goodwill.

I've had a couple of cases where people sold me DVDs which turned out to be bootlegs (they were long-out-of-print titles, so maybe I should've realised).  Anyway, they were good bootlegs (hope the Thought  Police aren't reading this) so I talked the price down.

Well, strictly speaking, the item was as described.  Fact is, the pedal I received does have "some" scratches if by "some" you take the literal meaning of "more than one"

It's actually a total wreck & with the benefit of hindsight, I was wildly optimistic in thinking the picture was of the item rather than one like it.

Perhaps you're right.  Talking to the sell may be best, though I'm not sure there's much mileage in it.

Apart from the price, I would be thinking perhaps, providing it works ok, that I could live with it but that is because I'm generally too busy to do much about it.

You can only ask, see what they say.  Failing that, put it down to experience?

Dude, as long as it technically is fine, just regard it as a Relic pedal

Oh it's been relic'd alright

Just confirmed it works well.  Ohh myyy what a great sounding pedal, why did I ever get rid of the (pristine) one I used to have?!?  :?

I think I'll just keep an eye out on ebay for one in better condition & sell this one when I get it.

No sense in rocking the boat with the seller.  I still think he was a bit naughty with his listing (not so much that he told an outright lie, but with the way the item was presented at auction compared to his other auctions, it was easy to believe the item was in much better condition than it actually was), but I'm still relatively new to ebay, so I think it's not worth the trouble...

at least leave a zero for 'item as described' if you do leave feedback.
