Chipping eh. Before cars had microchips I remember getting a massive twin choke weber Carb' with a pancake filter and fitting it to my Mk 4 Cortina!  It went like a rocket but drank nearly all my spare cash in petrol. The induction noise was so over the top I thought it was cool!

well, i'm more a fan of old fashioned tuning... but it's freakin expencive, replacing the cam shafts, exhaust, cylinder heads, filters .. and the list goes on and on and on..
with the turbos, you just get a large intercooler and a custom map and you get a much bigger boost in performance comparing to how much you invest. though, again you get a lot more if you replace the cylinder heads and cam shafts .. and the exhaust :P
haha.. it's a complete money sinkhole :D

If you could improve your mpg to 30 and you do 10,000 miles a year you'd save about £500 pa.

Yup, if it's got tits or wheels, it's going to be bloody expensive.
Advice worth what you just paid for it.

I have a 9-5 with the low pressure turbo 2.0 (which I presume is the same engine). It is a manual and I only do short journeys and get 28mpg-ish (just for reference - auto vs manual).

I know that the fuel economy is worse with an auto, but an average of 23mpg is pretty cr@p.  On longer journeys (motorways) I can get 26mpg max.  If I could consistently get 30mpg, that would be pretty acceptable.

Its something I'm gonna get done, I've decided now.  Just need to raise around £300 first - once the Epi korina explorer and Marshall 9000 series rack are sold, I'll get it done.
